New Orleans was great! We did eat at Emeril's Delmonico. Fortunately we were the first table in and DS was very well behaved! We had excellent service and the food (IMO) was pretty good..pricey, but tasty. The next night we ate at Mortons...also very good though no high chairs! We do tend to eat on the early side, so it worked out that the restaurant was fairly empty until we were ready to leave!

The weather was pretty good except for waking up to rain one morning; however, it quickly turned to sunshine!

We had beignet's (sp?) at Cafe Du Monde, walked around Pat O'Briens, had DS's portrait done along the city green, took a river boat ride (not all that exciting!) and walked around ALOT! Oh..and someone stole our digital camera from our luggage at the Marriott! Fortunately it wasn't our main digital camera (DH guards that one!) but still.....at least it's a great sale weekend to replace it! We suspect it disappeared either when they stored our luggage before the room was ready or when it was stored after we checked out but before we left (we don't use it alot...so we didn't notice until our next destination!).

***

We want to make dinner reservations for next weekend ~ would prefer something within safe walking distance (or streetcar) of JW Marriott on Canal.

Are all of the Emeril restaurants comparable? Any one better/worse than the other? Assuming of course we can get a table!

I like NOLA the best of his restaurants.

If you like traditional French, there is a little place on Magazine called Cueve. Its wonderful and romantic.

In the Garden District, which is a cheap cab ride from Canal is Commander's Palace and it is great too.

Nola is good (as the previous poster indicated).

I LOVE Brennan's--it is so yummy (Bananas Foster was invented there)! It is located right in the French Quarter (closer to Canal than Nola I believe).

As they say at Pat O'Brien's, "Have fun!"

When we were in New Orleans a few months ago, we ate at both Emeril's in the Warehouse District and at Commander's Palace. Frankly, I was NOT impressed with the service at Emeril's. I felt we were very ignored and the food was good, but not outstanding.

On the other hand, Commander's Palace was one of the most perfect dining experiences that I have ever had. Its a taxi ride away, but WELL worth it.

Somebody suggested Johnny's Po-boys to me but we went there and there were closed early. It is very casual dining - more like, you order up at the counter and find a seat. It is supposed to be very good po-boys (sandwiches). It is in the French quarter and the area looked safe.

This might be a good lunch option, esp w/ DS!

I ended up getting a table @ Emerils on St. Charles..hoping we can take the streetcar there. We'll try Commander's Palace the next night (hoping to!).

Seems like we associate New Orleans w/ Emerils, so the others traveling w/ us all want to try Emerils!

Another good place for lunch is Cafe Maspero (right across from Jax Brewery). It's cheap & very good IMO.

Laura,

Glad to hear that you had a fun time (sorry about your camera though)! New Orleans is the best. I usually eat my weight in beignets when I'm there, LOL! I could live at Cafe du Monde.

I was in New Orleans as part of our cruise on our honeymoon and loved it...even met Peter Max at an art gallery. He was a total jerk, but that's an entirely different story! Glad you had a great time...sorry about your camera though. Some nerve of people...especially at the holidays! My mom's was stolen out of the grocery cart when she was down watching Kayla for our anniversary this year. She wasn't as upset about the camera as she was about the memory stick inside! It had wonderful pics of her time with Kayla. Like you said though, a good weekend for replacement sales!

Fortunately the memory stick (though it was a 128 mb stick!) was dry of photos! But still.....

I'm going to Staples on Monday Morning to combine a few coupons & sales to get a good deal on a replacement Sony. Enjoy your new Fuji...sucks we both have to get new ones though.
