Oh poor C! Yesterday morning he was dancing in music class when he suddenly started with a junky cough. By dinner time, his temp was 101.8. Went to the ped this am and he has croup! Still acting like himself, though a little clingier, and won't nap much--I'm sure horizontal is tough.

I'm so bummed for him. Just when he gets better from one thing, he gets a minimal break and then its something else.

In addition, I'm bummed for DH and me. We were supposed to spend a great day together in Atlantic City on a bus trip. It was a full day date. Our friends were set to watch DS. Since we had already paid, DH still went, and just called to check in. He is wandering aimlessly around a casino with nothing to do--everyone else went off to spend the childless day on dates. No one to have dinner with (his cousin who is also on the trip didn't even invite him to dinner(!) which really irks me) and the bus doesn't head home til 8. He was so down on the phone, saying all that he had planned for us.

Poor baby! Liza had croup when she was 3 and it was terrible - I feel for you on that front. Sorry to hear your weekend plans got ruined - I haven't been to A.C. for a few years now but I am dying to check out the Borgata. Hope your sweetie is feeling better soon and you can have another date day before too long. :)

Awwww I'm sorry Julie.

There's nothing they can do for croup, is there?

Yuck. My friends DS has it right now too...what a pain in the rear. He's actually on a nebulizer (sp?) for the next week. Sorry DH is in AC without you...I'm sure he's not having much fun without you guys. Hope C is better soon...let us know how it goes.

Hugs!

I am so sorry your little one has croup. It is not fun...but the good news is it will run it's coarse in 5-7 days. Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins for the immune system. It will help control his infection and boost his immune system so that it will work more efficiently. For babies 6-12 months, give 60 mg, 4 times a day. For young ones 1-4 years of age, give 100mg./ 4 times a day and for 4 years and over, give 500 mg. 4 times daily. Another VITAL element is ZINC. It is necessary to help the body heal and promotes good immune function. 5 mg once daily for 3 days for children 6-12 months; 5 mg. twice daily for 3 days for ages 1-3; and lastly 5 mg. 3 times daily for those over 3 years of age.
Vitamins A and E are also very important.

Herbal remedies are a bit more complicated and I do not recommend using them unless you have contacted a certified herbalist. You can use a combination of echinacea, fenugreek, goldenseal, and thyme drops (15 drops) in liquid every 3 to 4 hours.
Eucalyptus oil is awesome for helping to relieve bronchial irritation. I add it to our humidifier's and the kids breathe it in when sick. Fenu-Thyme combination (Nature's Way) is excellant for congestion.
And lastly, steam filled bathrooms help a lot. Keep him hydrated! Soups, water, and herbal teas are good choices. Fresh cold air may also help him to breath a little easier.

Watch his breathing and make sure if it gets worse to take him to the ER. Oxygen may be needed to help him.
And remember (I'm sure you already know this) since croup is a virus, antibiotics do no good.
I hope he is well soon.

That's a bummer Julie. Hope C starts feeling better soon. I have to admit that I'm surprised you let DH go to AC without you when you have a sick one. You're a LOT nicer than I am!! :)

Julie, I hope that ds feels better soon. It's a bummer about missing your date. Hopefully, you can get another one scheduled when ds is better.

I'm sorry your little one is sick and you missed your trip. My DD had croup last week too, it's a yucky scary thing to have happen.
Hope everyone feels better soon.

Well, no big surprises here. Since we finished the meds today but he was still wheezing (though not as much) we had to go to the ped for an emergency check-up. Ped said the croup is much better, no concerns there, but that he has a "humdinger of an ear infection" (read with S. African accent--love that!). So C is now on Amoxicillan which will, hopefully, keep anything else away.

When oh when will he be better???

Oh good gravy!! Give C a hug for me, it stinks when they get sick, get better but still sick etc and it drags on forever. Here's to the ear infection being the last of the sickies for awhile!

Egads, Julie! I'm sorry...the poor little guy! And you must be exhausted. :(

Hang in there! (And I second making sure he's eating vitamin-C-rich foods.)
