View Full Version : It's shrinking!!! It looks like everything will be ok....

As most know, my little babe has had a choroid plexus cyst on the left ventricle of his/her brain. It is a soft marker for some chromosomal defects like Down's and Trisomy 18. I have been totally stressed about it for a month. Well, finally we were able to see the perinatologist and had the most wonderful appointment. He told me that the cyst was shrinking, and was already about half the size it was at the last ultrasound. He then spent about 20 minutes going over every other potential marker for a chromosomal defect and everything looked great! :) He looked at head circumference, long bone extremity length for arm and leg, heart shape, foot shape, length of pinky finger, etc. and everything looked perfect. He even checked for cleft palate and the other non-chromosomal stuff just because he was already there. He strongly recommended against getting an amnio since I now have no other markers and the cyst is shrinking. He estimated that my odds of having a Trisomy 18 baby (my big fear) is something like 1 in 7000. I like those odds :)

I knew that I was stressed lately but I had no idea what a difference this would make. I have a big filing today and my annual review (normally very high stressors) and I feel like I'm walking on air. It's silly, but I start to cry just from being so happy and relieved.

Thanks so much for everyone's support on this. It helped me more than you would ever know.

Can someone who isn't pregnant please have a drink for me tonight? It's time to celebrate! :)

Wonderful news!

Though Sarah didn't have a cyst, we were concerned she might be at risk for Trisomy 18. The Level 2 US went a long way to reassure us too.

May the rest of your pregnancy be uneventful.

Cheers!

Oh Kerry -- see I told you everything would be OK! I'm so, so happy for you. And the odds they gave you are even higher than they gave me with Gavin (mine was 1 in 5000), so you are good to go!

Kerry, I am so happy to hear this! I know how relieved you must feel. You're not silly to cry. When I got my amnio results I went upstairs to DH's office just sobbing! He was on the phone and had to hang up because he couldn't even understand what I was saying. It was such a huge relief. I still cry when I tell someone the whole story. So cry away! You deserve it!

Best wishes for a happy, uneventful remainder of your pregnancy!

Kerry,

I haven't had much time for the boards lately and had no idea you were having to deal with such a stressful issue. I'm so happy to hear things are looking up for you and your baby. I bet you can't wait to have that baby in your arms and know everything is ok.

Thanks everyone. It really made me smile to think of people around the country having a sip of wine or eating chocolate in our honor. :)

Today turned out to be a great day. I finished my filing with hours to spare, my review was good and I had the most incredible massage of my life. I am truly a happy woman.

That is actually fairly common D. That happened to us but my perinatologist never had a concern about it. He said that in 99% of the cases like mine (every test perfect and nothing else concerning showing up), it goes away in a month. When I went back 4 weeks later for the follow up, it was barely mentioned since it is presumed to be gone anyway!

Everything will be fine. :)

Oh the stressors of modern technology is the way I looked at it.

Big hugs for you that the stress if over and here's hoping your review goes wonderfully and you get a big fat raise.
