As opposed to regular oblong shaped ones?

We're doing square ones and I know the postage will be additional. I'm just trying to find out how MUCH more. I asked the lady at Cranes where we're getting them from and they said they didn't know. Part of it is that they're square and part of it is that the cardstock is heavier than normal.

I want to order stamps, and saw really cute Disney ones on the usps.com site.

Should I just assume I will need two $0.37 ones? I have 50 Dr. Seuss stamps that I've been specifically holding onto for Amelia.

Thanks!

Marisa,

You may be able to use the 50-cent stamps. Could you get a sample from Crane's, take it to the post office, and have it weighed? Or do you have a sample now. I think that's the only way to know for sure. FWIW, Ellie's announcements were postcards (but heavier than normal).

We used postcard stamps and all of the announcements arrived at their destinations, but it took awhile longer. I wish we would have just used the 37-cent stamps! That's what we'll use (if there is a) next time.

I don't think the square ones will add extra postage--it ought to be just the weight. Oh, wait, I checked on the USPS site and it says that a letter of unusual shape one ounce or less in weight has a $0.12 surcharge. So that would be 49 cents. So that means if the whole thing is one ounce or less, you can use the Dr. Seuss stamps.

HTH!

The Dr. Seuss stamps are $0.37 ones. I have 50 of them.

So that's why I think I will need to put two $0.37 stamps on the announcement.

I don't have samples, but they are thick cardstock. Surely they can't be heavier than $0.50 worth though.

i have mailed square things before and i have never used additional postage. never had a problem. i am sure 2 stamps would more than cover it. but you may be able to get away with one.

Crane should have a rectangular envelope that fits and matches the square card. Hallmark does this now too.

www.usps.com says square envelopes can require more postage--I think that's if they are longer than 6 1/8" on a side. Or that's the only thing I can figure out from the website--it says to call 1-800-ASK-USPS for the postage information. http://www.usps.com/send/preparemailandpackages/measuringtips.htm

If you were sending out one or two, I'd say not to worry about it, but 50 of them would flag attention, KWIM?

We used square announcements. I am pretty certain that they were .49 a piece and I used the .50 stamps. Ooooohhh-we're getting closer-I'm getting excited!

Oh, oops! But then yes, I would think 2 of them would be more than adequate. I did enter the price for a 1.5 oz article and it came out to be $0.60, so again, two of them would cover it.

So you'll have to post a copy of your announcement when it happens! :) Only 6 more days! We can't wait!

My wedding invitations were 7" square. They needed 55 cent stamps (6 years ago), which I think are now 65-cent stamps. I prefer the square cards and usually mail out 5" squares, which I think are 49 cents each, as a PP said.

I had square Christmas cards one year and used regular postage. Some people got them, no problem, some had to pay 12 cents to get them, and some were returned to me for insufficient postage.

I have never sent any funny-shaped mail since, it was so traumatic to have people asking about why they had to pay for their Christmas card...it especially bugged me because I delivered them to the post office and no one said anything about needing additional postage...
