We have been encouraged to bring a lot of DVDs for downtime in Ukraine...I normally would be someone who wouldn't dare hang out in a room if in a new country, but it appears that in Kiev that our facilitators might require that of us due to situations.

We are buying a portable DVD player and have no DVDS (except Tristan's)...I thought the seasons of SATC would be good since I have not seen them, even Sapranos.

Does anyone have them THAT THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO LEND US...
I'd pay for postage...

Anyway a long shot but thought I'd ask...
OR any suggestions how to get them without buying them (I'd never watch them again).

I thought about approaching the local Block Buster to see if they'd do something for us...

You could join either NetFlix or your local Blockbuster's Netflix-like program for a month and just rent them.

I have the first season if SATC (can't remember if it's VHS or DVD). I have to look (can't climb the stairs at the moment).

You're welcome to them if they are the right format!

I have some movies on DVD too. American Beauty, Cinema Paradiso are two that I know of off the top of my head.

I'll check and post an update.

Your library probably has DVDs, but I don't know how long the checkout time is. I think it's 3 weeks at ours, and then you can renew twice--so if you have internet access, you can renew them from Ukraine or just ask someone here to do it for you.

If Marisa doesn't have the first season of SATC, I know we do.

There were 6 seasons. Only parts 1 & 2 of season 6 have been released on DVD so far. Part 3 will be released at the end of the year.

Neve:

I just e-mailed you but I can lend you 1,5, and 6 for your trip if you'd like. I just need to wrangle them up from my friends who have them. And best of all, no shipping costs!

We are so swamped this week with DR's appts and all so I think we'd still need to ship though we only live about 30-40 minutes from eachother...

But I'd love to take you up on the offer to borrow them!!!

Bring stuff to read too...and plenty of socks and TP. Sounds dumb and I know things have changed in the past 14 years but when I was 17 I took a class trip to what was then still the Soviet Union. For some reason our socks all turned red from the dirt. We were there for 2 weeks without washing facilities so we all had to wear the same gross dirty socks. And our hotel toilet paper was sheets of waxed paper. Ouch. It was a nice hotel too.

Another thing that was a little scary was that for some reason people realized we were americans. People even knocked on our HOTEL DOORS to ask us for stuff. Everywhere we went people were bugging us. But then we were in a large group and it was pretty obvious that the large crew of kids all wearing Gap and Banana Republic weren't locals.

Just be safe and find yourself a great book. ;-)

Thanks Liza, didn't know if you knew we leave on Saturday and it appears they'll have to be sent to us since I can't run up there or barely even have a conversation on the phone (lack of time) so I appreciate anythign you can do to "wrangle" thanks !!!!!!

Best of luck, Neve. It's going to be a wonderful experience. One you can tell your babies and their babies when they're grown.

Now as I said I am sure a lot has changed in 14 years, but I guess it's better to err on the side of caution when it comes to the TP. :-)

One more thing, make sure you lock all your suitcases and hide your valuables when you leave your hotel room. Many of us had things stolen while we were out. Not big things, but things none the less.

We'll all be thinking about you and your amazing venture. A trip of a lifetime and you'll be bringing back the best souveniers ever!
