Not for me, but for a co-worker of mine. They are planning a "last fling" so to speak. When he posted this question to me, the only thought I had was, "I don't really care where the hack I have that vacation IF I ever get a wonderful chance to relax without my kids!" Since he cannot really appreciate that kind of thinking yet, I thought this will be the best place to ask for suggestions since many of you are well-travelled and have great taste in food/wine/restaurant. Soooo...

If you can go anywhere in the world with just your spouse, where would you go to have a fantasy vacation where you can enjoy great beach and wonderful restaurants? TIA!

I've never been there, but the island of St. Martin is supposed to have some of the best food in the Caribbean and also very nice beaches.

We are going here for our last fling before #2 comes:

Not quite the same, since DD will in tow, but its supposed to be beautiful and have excellent food.

On the more exotic side, if I could go anywhere and money and time were no object, it would be Tahiti. Bali and Fiji are also supposed to be amazing.

St Maarten/St Martin. We went there for our honeymoon. Great beaches and great restaurants. There are something like 21 beaches and all of them are open to the public.

Half of the island is French and half is Dutch and you can travel freely from one side to the other.

We absolutely love this place. You get your own bungalow and it is sooo relaxing.

Hawaii, hands down.

My husband and I are HUGE foodies - some of our dear friends think we've crossed over the foodie line into Food Snobbery - and we went to the Big Island for our honeymoon in 2002. We loved Hawaii so much that we went to Maui this past April for our "last fling," even though I got pregnant faster than I expected to and was five weeks along when we flew to Maui...

(I had a positive HPT at 7:00 a.m. the morning we flew to Maui and spent the car ride to the airport on the phone with my OB's nurse asking, "Are you SURE it's okay if I eat sushi? Because we're going to this sushi restaurant in Honolulu tonight and it's supposed to be the best in the world, and..." Anyway - we're foodies.)

So - Hawaii. The food in both Maui and the Big Island was amazing, and it's Hawaii, so of course the beaches are spectacular. I don't know how much your colleague wants to spend - I travel a lot for work so we went on miles both times - but I can't recommend it enough.

Not exactly a beach, but we did our last fling in Paris/Italy and it was amazing!!! We will probably never be able to take a vacation like that for a long time. The food was amazing and the wine was even better!

You know, thats a good point. Beach vacations are pretty easy with kids. But Paris or Rome....thats harder!

St. John. It's a small island in the Carribbean, like 75% of it has been designated National Park, so it can't be developed. The restaurants there are great- if they aren't good, word gets around and the restaurant goes under because folks at the hotels quit recommending it. That's what a guy at the hotel told me, anyway.
