So, I think that my DH has some dyslexic tendencies. I want him to realize that he's not dumb, and that he could have a learning disability. His primary and secondary schools didn't test for such things when he was growing up, so how would we get him tested now as an adult?

I've gently hinted over the last few years that he should ask his doctor about it. He hasn't (I think bc he has some shame around it). He gets really frustrated and down bc he can't keep numbers straight (phone #s are especially bad) and makes mistakes in math and grammar all the time, and he has a difficult time remembering things. On top of all that, English is his second language, so he has a hard time with writing. He's incredibly bright and articulate, but I think these mistakes nag at his confidence. I want to help him.

Tell me what you know about dyslexia in adults.

I only have a minute to post, but have you seen this website?[www.interdys.org]

It should be able to give you a lot of information.

There are lots of educational specialists, but very few who deal with adults. Many adults have honed their coping skills, and prefer not to be tested or just don't have the money (it can be VERY costly, a friend had it done in the Philly area and it ran about $1500, not covered by medical insurance).

I will try to dig up some info, as well as get ahold of my mom who is an accomplished ESL teacher for adults and children to see if I can get more info. What area are you in also, that may help others provide recommendations as well. Please feel free to email me, just in case this thread gets lost... mamaslittleturtle @ yahoo.com

I'm in Austin, TX. Thanks so much for offering to help with info. We're starting from basically zero, so any guidance you or your mom can give is much appreciated.

Thanks, again!

Thanks for the website recommendation! I've bookmarked it and have been reading off and on all day. It's really, really helpful, and has a lot of relevant info on adults. Also reminds me that if my DH *does* have dyslexia, then I need to watch for signs in DS as it is hereditary.

Thanks!
