I need to pack a medicine cabinet for our trip...
steve is shopping after work...

any advice for the best preggo meds to take for the following

* diarrhea
* antacids
* cold medicine...sinus

We take so little medicine, I have nothing against it, we just don't seem to need it much (gosh when I worked in the hospital I was sick all the time-worked...but sick)...

Thank you!!!!

Neve,

Here's a list I got from my doctor:

Indigestion - Tums, Riopan, Maalox, Mylanta
Sinus Congestion - Sudafed, Normal Saline Nose Spray/Drops
Headache - Tylenol (regular strength)
Constipation - Metamucil, Senokot, Fibercon, Fiberall, Colace (if other products don't help)
Cough - Robitussin DM or PE, Triaminic and Triaminic DM
Nausea/vomiting - Emmetrol, wrist-band, tea (ginger/peppermint)
Diarrhea - Kaopectate
Sore throat - sucrets
hemorroids - anusol, preparation H

Like you, we take very little medicine here, but I have taken tums for heartburn, and they seem to work. I have also taken tylenol for headaches twice, and it's also worked.

Also, remember to get up frequently and strech your legs during the plane trip and drink plenty of fluids. You probably already know this, but just thought I remind you just in case.

Have a safe trip, and good luck!

Neve,

You may have this packed already, but think about bringing a bottle of some type of cold, decongestant, cough medicine for Tristan. I too rarely use medications, but just recently gave it to Chloe for a bad cold for the first time. It really helped when she was miserable with a sore nose.

And don't forget pocket packs of good tissues! Will be helpful for more than noses ;).

Not Chrissy but my Ped always recommended the Childrens Triaminic Cold and Cough.... they make a nighttime formula too! For simple nasal congestion we've used Dimatapp. Oh and Little Noses saline nasal spray drops for congestion as well!

Be sure to take along some regular childrens tylenol and motrin in case T comes down with a fever of some sort while you are over there.... but you probably already have that on your list!

Good luck!

Steve's probably going to be overwhelmed with the choices on the drugstore shelf! Any of them will work though in the long run since the base medications are just about the same in all of them.

I have the "Simply Stuffy" Tylenol brand, which only has decongestant in it. Since you are trying to minimize space though, you may want to get a bottle of a combination decongestant and cough suppressant. Often those have either tylenol or motrin thrown into the mix as well. Having a separate bottle of just plain children's tylenol or motrin like Tondi suggested is a good idea in case Tristan happens to just run a temperature and doesn't need all that other stuff. They all taste pretty good (ie: very sweet!).

I called it "special juice" and Chloe slurped it down :P.

Neve,
You didn't mention anything for allergies but you might want to take benedryl with you in case you have some sort of reaction to something. It was the only allergy medication I was allowed to take when pregnant.

And don't forget to look here to get the proper dosages for T's weight. Dose by his weight, not by his age.

And another suggestion to have on hand are those travel packages of flushable wipes. Perfect for using when you're in a bathroom with *ahem* less than adequate facilities...

I was going to say the same thing about wipes! I also brought the individually wrapped purell wipes and hand sanitizer on our trip - allbeit ours was just to FL, but it's literally the FIRST time I've ever traveled and NOT gotten a cold!

For brands of decongest/cough supp, we use pediacare drops. They make a dye-free version that I love, and Walgreens has a generic version (also dye free) if $$ is an issue :)

Good luck Neve!!!!!
