My sister wants socks for Christmas. Yes, she actually said that she wants socks! So, I'm looking for ideas on really good, sort of splurge-on-yourself socks (if those actually exist). She mentioned that she'd like different colors and they'd be mainly to wear around the house b/c their house is always cold, but she doesn't want any sort of slipper-sock. They also have to be easy to care for (no high-maintenance socks!). Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking about checking with Land's End or LL Bean, but that's all I've come up with so far.

I don't know if it's her thing, but for her birthday I got my sister some Talbots socks that were black with pumpkins and other autumn-themed things like leaves. She really liked them. I haven't been in lately, but the store probably has some cute winter-themed ones now.

Is she an outdoorsy or sporty type? If so, then Smartwool may be for her. They are my absolute favorite sock right now.

Socks are on my list every year, but I don't get them because they are boring! One of my frends really likes the Thor-lo socks and I think they are pricier, but I haven't tried them so can't vouch for them. I *love* the Land's End Ragg socks in wool/cotton and all-cotton. They are pricy at $16 for 2 -- definitely in the "splurge" category. Another idea for thick, chunky socks is to check your local REI or camping-goods store.

Thor-lo. I used to pass by the outlet store all the time but then my sister moved and I don't have any left. So sad because they feel good on my poor sad feet.

I'm going to say Thor-lo too! And I think I may be Caroline's friend who loves them!! :) :) In fact, we just went to REI yesterday and I picked up another pair. Pricey at $12/pair, though. I get the midweight ones, they are really puffy and wash well. Absolutely perfect with the Danskos! HTH.

I love the Thorlo fitness socks. They are the BEST and most supportive socks I've ever worn. I have to have them to work out. Fine shoe stores and Nordstroms carries them and I think Footlocker? Marshall's always has great cutesy socks for great prices. I always see cute stripes and prints.

Have you seen the velour socks in the stores recently? They are really comfortable - they are great for lounging around the house. HTH.

My dad and brother wanted socks too! Weird...

Anyway, I got them fleece socks from REI. I've never worn them but everything else I own that's fleece is super-comfy so I figure these will be too!

I have seen some at COSTCO. They were called the Worlds softest socks or something like that. They did feel really really soft. They were not as expensive as the ones the pps mentioned. They were the softest socks I have seen so far. They were available in pastel colors only.

Karen Newberger (I think that's how it is spelled) makes those comfy fleece socks that are soft inside and out. They range between $10 - $15. They are available at Nordstrom's (in the pajama section) and Shop NBC

I just bought two pairs of soft socks from Nordstroms (not sure if they are for me or someone else yet!). They are more the type you would wear in the house and they were $8 each. They are similar to the Karen Neuberger socks. I also like Lands End for socks.
