My DS is doing more tummy time and sometimes he nods off. Should I put him on his back, probably waking him, or let a sleeping baby lie for a short nap, while I'm awake and nearby?

I think it depends on your comfort level -

my DS started sleeping on his tummy at 6 weeks for a variety of reasons. At this point he was lifting his head & holding it up for several seconds. I'm not advocating this, just telling what worked for us! Bottom line - he slept better due to some tummy/gas issues & just hated being on his back in general.

I'm with Steph. We let sleeping babies lie, especially when he could lift his head quite a bit and we were nearby. When he started rolling over, we also quit worrying about it.

I agree with the PPs. Let sleeping babies lie!

I understand your concern! If you are there in the room right next to him then it is okay. If he starts having breathing problems or putting his face into the blanket then you can see and fix it.

It is also okay once he is able to roll over.

The one time Taran fell asleep on his stomach during tummy time when he was younger, I just let him sleep. I was right there, and he didn't sleep for very long anyway. I dunno, I figured it wasn't a big deal since I was right there anyway.

Plus, I got a couple of absolutely adoreable pictures out of it. ;) (The little puddle of drool that formed on the blanket undearneath him was just funny and made the pictures even better!)
