View Full Version : What's she trying to do? (Pic attached)

Is this a precursor to crawling? Is she trying to stand up? She's been doing this a lot lately. She's not using her arms to hold onto anything, though.

Thanks!
Jude

looks like the tripod - which is a precursor to crawling! Let the fun begin :)

Actually, that's how Kaya learned to get into a sitting position. She pushed up until her butt fell backwards and then sat up. :) She still doesn't crawl on her hands and knees but instead crawls commando style. I'm kind of curious if she'll ever crawl in the traditional sense. Cute picture--I hope I can get one of Kaya doing that!

I agree w/ Steph. She's getting ready to get mobile! Jake pushed up a lot like this before actually crawling. Funny, when he did crawl, he often crawled in this position. We refer to it as the caveman walk or the wolfboy walk, in reference to Mowgli, from the Jungle Book, who walked/crawled that way in a few scenes. It was too cute!

Eileen-
G still is commando crawling too - I'm beginning to think he'll never crawl in the traditional way either! Now he rolls over to his side & gets into a sitting position this way. G doesn't really do the tripod although I have seen him do it a handful of times & then flop back down on his belly.

As a pp mentioned, we called this baby yoga...downward facing dog! DS did this a lot before he started to crawl, but he actually began to crawl on his belly (army crawl) and then quickly moved into "normal" crawling. These yoga positions seemed to be about flexing his muscles, seeing what kind of positions he could get into. Incidentally, a couple days after he was crawling normally, he was also pulling up to a standing position and cruising so maybe this position helped in some way?

I told you once Riordan and Erik are from the same planet: He has done the same exact thing (REALLY push on his legs), for (I swear) almost a couple of months now. He REFUSES to use his hands though, which is so funny...Now he has decided to *reluctantly* army crawl, menaing he uses his elbos to inch forward....looks like it takes a whole lot of energy for the little guy....
I can't believe Riordan's hair though!! Curls!

That's good; she won't have any problem crawling in a dress. Love those curls by the way.

DD did this too. We called it crab walking. About the time she started doing this is when we gave her a little walk behind push toy to balance on and she took off. Still took her a while to realize she could walk without holding onto anything though.

K alternates between getting into a sitting position like G or sort of stepping with her feet and then eventually bending her knees and tucking them under her. She doesn't tend to stay in the tripod position that Rory apparently is doing. :)

Thanks everyone. Yes, we've been calling it the downward dog also - she can hold it longer than I can! She just does it and then starts squealing...it's pretty funny.

She's been rocking on hands and knees for weeks, and the other day she moved a knee forward twice (in succession!) so I thought she was going to crawl conventionally and so I wondered what on earth this was about. You mean she might just start MOVING from this position?? Yikes! How's she gonna see where she's going??

LOL - what a great trip all of this is.

Now if only these TEETH would come in already...!

:)
