I bought this one - http://www.thecompanystore.com/parent.asp?product=UD22x&dept%5Fid=5202 - and returned it - the quality was fine, but it looked like we had just put a towel on the floor, if that makes sense.

Then, I splurged for this - http://www.landofnod.com/landofnod/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=land+of+nod+version+1&product%5Fid=0301221&site%5Fmode=mode%5Fmain&area%5Fname=baby&category%5Fname=Baby%5FRugs&subcategory%5Fname=Baby%5FThrow%5FArea%5FRugs - chenille braided rug from Land of Nod, and we LOVE it. Beautiful and very well-made.

Not what you asked, but we bought a chenille rug from Pottery Barn and the thing is a complete mess. Sheds like no dog ever could, doesn't hold up well to minimal traffic, snags with the vacuum cleaner, etc. Just having that big mess of a rug makes me reluctant to purchase another chenille rug, but it could just be a PB thing.

I wish I could just say it fell apart because it was cheap, but unfortunately that's not true x(

Thanks...you confirmed my concern about the company kids rug...I thought it looked a little thin in the catalog. I'm surprised about the PB one...scary given the cost of those things! I like the Land of Nod one, but we need a larger size. Here is the one I'm considering now....its a Capel braided chenille...any thoughts???

Teri - how's your rug still holding up? Can you vacuum it with the rotation thing on? My PBK wool one you cannot, and it sheds horribly.

I found the BEST PLACE TO BUY BRAIDED RUGS, hands down, this place is great, great quality, great prices, great customer service. My rug still looks brand new after a year of use.

http://www.millsriver.com/

Mills River offers custom made rugs, free shipping for items over $100, no tax if you're out of state. Run by a nice family, the woman in charge is named Julia. Their prices, quality and colors are great. Their website doesn't show the baby blues, yellows, and pinks, but you can order a swatch of the braid for free.

I bought a 30 inch octagonal braided rug (Vintage Series), in blues that are very soft and nice for a nursery, from a speciality store near me. I put it in front of our hutch/changing table but I wanted a bigger one for the middle of the room. So I found the company's name on the tag, did a Google search and found that they have a website. I called them up and was so happy to hear that they do make rugs to order for individual customers.

While I was at the speciality store I saw this company's pinks and yellows there as well and they are also nice shades for a nursery. They come in oval, round and octagonal and will do any size you like.

The company uses cotton remnants from the mills down south.

They are machine washable, if they're too big for the machine Julia said you can wash them in the tub or outside. Very sturdy. I've never vacuumed mine. Just shake it outside and wash it when necessary.

They don't charge your credit card till the rug ships. I ordered a 60 inch (about 5 feet) blue octagonal one (Vintage Series) for the middle of the nursery. It only cost $138.50 no other charges and this is custom made! I couldn't find this one or a comparable one in a store anywhere! I think the price is great from what I've seen around.

Here's the website address again... http://www.millsriver.com/

And here's pictures of ours:

I noticed that your user name is ncmommy. Are you in NC? There's a Capel rug outlet in Raleigh (www.capelrugs.com for other locations) We got our rug from Capel and we LOVE it. I got to see the rugs in person and feel them - and they're much cheaper than those at PBK. I was particularly pleased with the bargain when I later saw the SAME rug in the Horchow catalog! We've had ours for about 5 months now and it appears to be holding up fine.
