I couldn't believe it when I walked outside today, I had the most beautiful, single, heirloom rose growing from my rose bush. That's when I peaked around back into our vegetable garden to find snow peas hanging off the vine. I had the most delightful salad of fresh sugar snap peas, lettuce & grape tomatoes.

What's growing in your gardens? What are you going to plant?

Veggies: I've got tomatoes (better boy-hybrid, and beefsteak), broccoli, sugar snap peas, green peppers, and we're planting ocra, jalepenos, and cucumbers.

Flowers: just planted begonias, azalea, hydrangea, gerbera daisies & daylily.

First off, your rose is pretty stunning! We don't have much growing, although we did have tulips, daffodils (I think most of these are gone by now) and have bluebells, and I think...some sort of purple flower vine type thing (I don't know much about botany). Right now, what's gorgeous in my garden is my Japanese Maple. I couldn't quite get the picture, but the tips were lightened by the sun setting. Anyway, you can see the gorgeous deep purple in the picture (I hope).

Wow, that Japanese Maple is gorgeous!! It's so huge, too! I'd pay a small fortune for one of that size to be installed, so I imagine it must be pretty mature. The original owners of our house put one in the backyard almost 17 years ago, and it's about 1/3 the size of yours. And yes, I love it when the dark purple leaves catch the sunlight (early spring & late autumn are its best times).

I love the purple grape hyacinth! I've been meaning to get some of the dry bulbs, but I don't know when to plant them.

Also, the vine flowers look a lot like Clematis, but I'm not sure. I never thought I had any interest in gardening until DH came along. But now, it's so nice to see flowers as a sign from God that life goes on. Spring (to me) is a time of renewal, and that gives me peace.

My Mr. Lincoln rose and climbing rose are blooming. I've also got petunias, coral bells, spiderwort, and dianthus (pinks) blooming. My cosmos, four o'clocks, hollyhock, bee balm, lilies, and three other roses have yet to bloom.

My veggie garden has mortgage lifter tomatoes and yellow pear tomatoes, an eggplant, and basil.

I love the rose picture in your post!

Thanks Sonia and Larissa. Yes, it's definitely my favorite thing growing in my yard! It's also the largest one in the neighborhood, so I know it's been growing for a loooong time. Our neighborhood is probably less than 50 years old, but I suspect that tree was planted quite a long time ago. We have lots of young trees growing below it if anyone wants to come and take them. :P

I think you're right that the vine flowers are Clematis--it sounds about right. I think I've planted two Easter Lilies in my yard, and a couple of hyacinths, but otherwise, most of the flowers were there from the previous owners. Two of our neighbors have a tons of flowers and little things and they have gorgeous gardens. We don't have a ton of little flowers, but we have the Japanese Maple, a regular Maple, and a few Magnolias (star and tulip, I think) and some Azalea bushes. So all our things are big things, if that makes any sense. I agree with you about Spring, though. Seeing the flowers always gives me a lift and makes me sigh in peace. :)

If you want, I can post pictures of my neighbor's garden--their house is built on the side of a hill and they have a series of fish ponds, a gazebo, and couple of other architectural structures, and tons of flowers and little trees. It's quite beautiful--their house was part of the MD Home and Gardens tour a couple years ago.

Growing or producing?? ;) Right now I have roses, peonies, pansies, petunias, portulacas, late azaleas, crazy energetic verbena, gaura, geraniums, deutzia, dianthus and impatiens blooming. Lots of other stuff budding or just putting out new leaves, though!

We've got 2 types of basil growing. Basil, for whatever reason, grows like CRAZY in our garden. I give it away in garbage bags. We've got rosemary. We've also got tomatoes (cherry variety) ripening on the vine. We have a couple of really fragrant Mexican mint plants growing. Smells amazing. Some sort of melon/cucumber vine is growing. We had quite a few cucumbers last year. We haven't yet planted our serrano peppers, but that's one of my faves from the garden.
