We are buying a new house and will finally have a playroom. We have a blank slate to work with (new construction), and I have no idea what to do with the space. Does anyone have any pics of their playrooms to share? Thanks so much!

I'll post a few pictures. It's not like a have a professionally decorated play room, but I think it's cute and it works for us.

The room used to be a screened in porch that we had a contractor finish with real walls and windows. I like that two of the walls are all windows - makes it very light and airy. I bought a shelving rack at Costco ($60) and it would look much better if I would cover the shelves with a cute contact paper. One of my favorite things in the room is the 1950's advertisements that I had matted and framed.

The couch isn't something I wanted in the room. We just happen to have it and I'm not ready to get rid of it yet. Also, the cat already destroyed the back of it, so I don't care what the kids do to it. It's a loose back sofa and the kids really like to take the cushions off and make fort, hide, etc.

Here are some things I think would be darling in a play room:

a couple of antique school desks - the kind where the seat for one is attached to the front of another

those alphabet cards that Land of Nod sells (we have those in my dd's room - like them a lot)

a play store - someone in the around the house forum posted some cute pictures of one she made from a book case. I'll try and find that post.

a couple of antique school desks - the kind where the seat for one is attached to the front of another

those alphabet cards that Land of Nod sells (we have those in my dd's room - like them a lot)

a play store - someone in the around the house forum posted some cute pictures of one she made from a book case. I'll try and find that post.

Robin,
This is a spare bedroom on our first floor. It's not very large but large enough to accommodate everything. I kept the wall color neutral because this room seems to be ever changing as baby stuff goes out and newer toddler stuff comes in. In another year or two, we will convert the room to an older play space with computer armoire, seating, tv, etc...

But here it is right now.

Robin,
This is a spare bedroom on our first floor.

I love your playroom. Ours isn't worth taking a picture of. It's just a bonus room. I love all of the pictures - what a great idea. I've been wondering where to put all of Martie's portraits.

How sweet of her - she can come over and play anytime :)

I hope more people post pics since I'm always looking for new storage ideas and activity areas. Jeanne's room is really nice. I like the peg board (think that's what it's called) and the shelves above the windows.

The "adult" area, although we put trains up by the wet bar to hide them from Alex, which is not working, and we also had to set Nick up his own office.

Oh my. That is such a wonderful room. I love how you integrated 3-d butterflies with the painted wall. It's inspiring me to do something.

That's amazing - I love your kitchen - you should post in Around the House about how you made that kitchen set and the play store!

that's gorgeous. Can I ask where you found the 3-d butterflies and such? I've been wanting to hang something like that in DDs room, but the only thing I've found that I like is a mobile at PBK that's $40 which is a bit higher than I wanted to spend (it's a mobile meant to hang from the ceiling not a crib mobile).

Thanks!

That's great! My little one could definitely spend a day in there and never get bored. I love the fabric on the ceiling!
