What are our babies doing?

Nothing special going on with Erik right this moment, walking as he has for over month, sleeping sort of thru the night but definately up for the day by 530 am. Favorite toy is a broken truck.

Oh, he is eating a LOT more now, almost like an adult. I'm thankful as he gained hardly any weight between 9-12 months.

No words yet, that I can understand.

Kairi is about the same, walking for the last month (although she still occasionally crawls). She hasn't been sleeping through the night the last few weeks because of various ilnesses and 4 teeth coming in at once, but it's getting better. Her favorite toy is anything she shouldn't have-- magazines, an empty pop bottle, and her daddy's remote control. :)

Her eating is spotty-- some days she chows away, some days she picks.

No words here, either (unless you count "dooka"). We joke that she's actually speaking a dead language.

Fory is almost 15mo, but he definately belongs in the same cohort as Erik, I think.

Walking since 12mo, working on running these days
Can open doors, if he can reach the doorknob (he knows to turn it)
Sleeping 630pm to 530am, with two nursing breaks, at about 11 and 3-5

We had a horrid week of sleep last week when he was getting 5 teeth at once, ugh! He has 12 teeth, I think, might be 11. Hard to count, he'd rather chew your fingers.

He's a little language delayed, according to the Denver Developmental Assesment, he says Mama, Dada, Hi! (it definately has an exclamation point). He waves, although he is a wave after the person leaves kind of guy. He also knows three signs, milk, more, and dog. I'm trying not to stress about the language thing. Might have his hearing tested at 18 mo, though.

Fairly irregular eater these days, much more likely to refuse to even taste stuff than he used to be.

I think Erik is heading for the same delay actually. This is puzzling to me as I cannot stop talking, and started doing so at 9 months. I need to get over it, everyone tells me not to worry and that the fact that we speak to him in 2 languages is to blame. That's bull because my secret is that I speak to him in Engish more than anything else, just to get him to say one word and worry about his bilingualism afterwards. He only does the signs for milk and eat(put we've never pushied the signing issue), and those not consistently(meaning, when I put the DVD into my laptop to watch it with him, he quickly does both signs like to tell me I know this stuff already, move on!)

He points or streches his hand if he wants something.

The irony of it is, Erik has always been a "talkative" and expressive baby (doctors and strangers comment on his many sounds from very early on), so we always thought he would talk soon. No dice.

What is the Denver Developmental Assesment, can you tell me more?

PS: As I said in the toy thread, Erik and Forrest, simple men, drinking cheap beer and wearing plaid shirts...At least they both have the pretty eyes ;)

I think Erik is heading for the same delay actually. This is puzzling to me as I cannot stop talking, and started doing so at 9 months. is almost 14 months. She's signing several words and speaking dada, mama, all "da"(all done), "bubba"(bubbles) and has said "yummy" in the past but reserves it for my mom's cooking. She is a very very busy little girl. She really enjoys household items like water bottles, cups, spoons, remotes among others. That's all I have for now.

Oh, she has her good days with the food but most days only takes a couple of bites at each meal. Oh, to be able to live on 8 bites of food again. :P

She is a very very busy little girl. She really enjoys household items like water bottles, cups, spoons, remotes among others. That's all I have for now.

Oh, she has her good days with the food but most days only takes a couple of bites at each meal. Oh, to be able to live on 8 bites of food again. :P

Hmmm. Alex is starting to talk up a storm... taking me by surprise. Of course, most of his words are leading consonant + vowel, so many sound the same. I think we're up to 10: mama/mom, dada, pup (our dog is Pup-pup or Gilly), gypsy or kitty (for both cats, one of whom is Gypsy), duck, water, ball, book, bear. He won't always say them, and certainly won't do so on command.

He did start walking later, though -- he's only been at it for a few weeks. (Started around 13 months.) He's already trying to run, though. Not very good at it yet!

Sleeps all right, but has been going to bed late. It's been 9-6:30 most of this week, with at least one nursing awakening around my bedtime. Used to be asleep by 8...

Eats great. Can't believe how much sometimes... he loves Booty in particular, and can put down handfuls of it! He also loves stealing whatever it is I have (got most of a piece of pizza the other day, when I offered a bite). Started whole milk yesterday, and that's a hoot. One sip from the milk sippy, then one from the water, and on and on... guess we should only offer one!

Loves, loves, loves to go outside. Latest thing is to take the dog brushes. He's already over chasing the (94-lb) dog with them, though. Now he'll brush anything else... grass, concrete... trying to keep him away from the car. (These are fairly stiff, wire brushes!)

Other big things is they're starting to prep at daycare for his transition to the toddler room! He's ready to go, and they'll start taking him down there in a week or two! (He dropped bottles at a year on his own, dropped his morning nap a few weeks ago (again on his own), is walking, and napped on the cot for the first time yesterday....) I'm finding this bittersweet... my baby is getting to be a big boy!

Alex has been walking for over a month as well and trying to run. He tends to fall a lot still when outside and moving from different surfaces, so his forehead is full of bruises. Sleeps most nights 6-6. His favorite toys are balls and a toy broom.

Eating is frustrating. He never took to table food that much and for the past month won't be spoon fed. He also has cut down on nursing to 2 times a day. I keep offerring food, but he pretty much sticks to veggie booty and fig newtons. The dogs, however, are very well fed!

No words here except for constant babbling, but DS1 didn't really talk until after he turned 2, so I am trying not to worry.

Umm, at 14 months DD had 3 words, counted liberally: uh-oh, No! and Hi. And no signs unless you counted headshaking. So I suppose that was behind, and had been ever since she was supposed to start saying Mama and Dada at what, 9 months? She'll be 15 months in 2 days and she has at least 15 words (5 comprehensible by strangers) and 3 signs (more, all done, and dog), which on those same scales is nicely advanced. She still does not say Mama (people say she does, but they're being confused by her tendency to say "more more" and "mine mine"). She *might* say Dada -- the other day she got to the door, turned around and walked back to where she could see DH, and waved and said "Bye-bye Da". But we haven't heard it enough to be sure.

She's a bundle of energy, loves stair climbing, can get from the ground into her carseat, can open the doors at my office (lever handles). She eats all sorts of stuff, and likes to have a fork and spoon to do it with, although she mostly does things like pick up the food with her fingers to put it on the spoon, or stab it with a fork and then pull it off and eat it with her fingers. She also wants to hand me anything she tries and doesn't really want to eat, ick. She sings. You can't quite tell what, but that's clearly her aim, and she dances along. Yesterday she could tell you what a cow, a dog, and a fish said, and every so often a sheep. Today, everything is a dog and goes "woof". She's like that these days -- she adored bananas one week and had a banana word, but now she won't eat them, much less talk about them.

Andrew has been walking for 3.5 months now, but still can't stand up from sitting without pulling up.

He is working on 3 molars and a canine tooth, I think. I can see bits off all four of them. Poor kid.

He has no real words. We think he may be speaking Russian, as he does say "da" a lot. He signs more, water, all done, shoes, and ball. He understands a lot of what we say and sign.

He points using his whole hand. This is new this week.

He sometimes waves, and he likes to clap a lot. Makes understanding the more, shoes, and ball signs a lot harder :).

He goes to bed about 7:30, except we've had the occassional 10PM!, and wakes at about 6. He still gets up 2-4 times each night, but doesn't nurse any more.

We are almost done nursing. We're down to once most days and none some days.

His favorite toy is any ball. He picks them up and drops them (like he's yo-yoing) to watch them bounce.

Hmmm.... Not a lot new. She took her first steps the other day. Of course it was the one afternoon that she was at daycare so I wasn't there! :( She's not talking other than Mama, Dada, Duck, Baby (actually "bay") and bye-bye. Her only really "trick" is if you ask her what a fish does she makes a fishy face. :) It's pretty darn cute.

She's VERY into her doll. Tonight while I was making dinner I heard her talking to her and went in and she was pretending to give her *baby* a drink with a little cup. She loves to put her in and out of her doll stroller and gives her lots of hugs and kisses whenever she sees her. I love it.

Also, she LOVES hats! Preferrably Truman's baseball caps. She puts them on backwards and crawls all over the place.

Sleeping is okay. She still has one night waking, and then again at around 4 or 5. Since she's not nursing very much during the day, I really don't mind.

What's so interesting to me is how different she is from DS. When he was her age, I had already dubbed him a toddler. He had been walking for months, and just seemed older. She is still very much a baby. And I like it that way!

Oh! My favorite thing is the way she *asks* for naps! She rubs her eyes and looks at me expectantly. I ask her if she's ready for a nap and she does this super serious slow nod. Then, when she wakes up, and I get her from the crib, I get the best hug. That's probably my very favorite thing.

LOL! For a kid I said wasn't doing much, I sure wrote alot!! I can't begin to say how much I'm enjoying her. She's the easiest, most fun kid ever! (Okay, actually she ties for most fun with DS!!)

Charlie has been walking for a couple of weeks now -- it is more of a party trick for him -- he still relies on crawling when he really wants to move.

He has several words -- mama dada NO! bye bye, da and ba are multi-functional: dog, yes (his day care provider is Russian, so I think he has learned some from her) bath, bottle, ball. He understands WAY more than he can speak.

He tries to help me put his clothes and shoes on. Esp. shoes and socks.

Favorite toys -- loves anything "guzinta" -- cup goes into another cup which guz inta a box which guz inta.... And loves throwing balls. Loves "singing" and clapping to the songs on the radio.

Bedtime is 7:30. Wakes at 6:00. Often wakes once in the night. Takes 1 1/2 hours of naps. One nap most days. We nurse at bed time, and if he wakes up. In the morning we are 50/50 on nursing.
