View Full Version : How long did you use a rocker/glider in your dc's room?

I know that this is better suited for nursery necessities but posting here since there's more traffic. I promise I won't be bugging you all w/any more nursery-related questions after this.

I'm trying to decide if we need to get another glider for our new baby girl and keep Charlie's in his room (he'll be around 17 months when she's born). My inclination is yes but I wonder if we can get away w/not having one in his room. Plus, I don't think DH will appreciate having to buy another crib AND glider. So your input will be much appreciated. :)

Thanks,

We kept our glider in the baby's room, moved him into his "big boy room" five months before her arrival, and explained that I could still use it with him, but it belonged in the nursery. We changed the cover (bought new ones for the seat and ottoman). I thought it would be a really hard adjustment for him, but he never looked back. I think it depends on how you use it with your ds and if you think he'll really still want to be in it after the baby arrives.

At 19 months, I still use the rocker in DS's room every day ... to pile clothes on. :)

I think I nursed/ rocked DS in that chair (upholstered rocker from Plow and Hearth) around 5 times when he was a newborn. After that, we found our regular nursing spot-- propped up on my bed.

My vote would be that you don't need a second chair. What are you using it for now? We had it in Sydney's room until she was 20 months which coincided with when we moved so we did not put it back in her room in thenew house. Even though we had it in there that long, it was only bc we were too lazy to move it and all Sydney did was crawl on it and stand whoich made us very nervous.

Anyway, I think it's a big expense to get a second one. So I would not. HTH.

I agree with pp's. I wouldn't buy another one. Our glider is still in the nursery. We've already decided #2 will have a separate room and will move the glider in there when the time comes.

My ds is 18 months and we still use the glider in his room on a daily basis. We sit there to nurse before naps and bedtime. And he loves to climb on the ottoman.

We stopped rocking DD to sleep at about 14 months, and we could move it out. Now, it's nice to have a comfy chair in there for reading bedtime stories, but it doesn't have to be a rocker.

I would move the glider into the new baby's room.

My favorite position for nursing, since Kaya was around 2 weeks old is the side-lying position. So I nurse her in my bed her the bed in her room. We have two gliders, and they only get use when we have guests and we need the extra chairs. ;)

we use ours now, but just for story time or a place to sit--not for rocking DS (21 months). We're keeping it in the baby room. Don't see the need in DS' room.

Our Dutailer glider has always been in the living room at our house. I never use it though- we sing, have milk (or used to nurse), and snuggle on the couch and then move him into his room. However, the glider is my DH's favorite spot in the house- so it's really his chair now! :)

Well, Sophie is just about 2-1/2 and I still use it to read to her.

In fact, I liked it so much, I bought a second one for her Big Girl Room!
