Ladies I had this once before, but it went away. This feeling is like a sharp stabbing pain IN my groin/vaginal area. I've had round ligiment pain at the hair line since 8 weeks and it does NOT feel the same. That pain is more like a pull/muscle cramp pain, this is a sharp jetting pain that has been coming and going since 9:30 this morning. I just called the doctors office and am waiting to hear back from a nurse. I just googled vaginal pain and now am a little freaked cause this pain was described as your cervix dilating! It is NOT time for that! Here's what I read, problem is I'm not late in pregnancy :(

What you may be experiencing: Late in pregnancy, you may feel pain inside the vagina- usually a sharp, piercing pain that comes and goes suddenly. What you're feeling, most likely, is your cervix dilating, or opening, as it prepares for the passage of your baby. Dilation can take place several weeks or just hours before labor begins. Normally, it's not cause for concern, but you should tell your healthcare provider about it. If the pain occurs in your lower abdomen, call your practitioner immediately.

ANY THOUGHTS?????????????????????????????????????????? ???????

Well, I woke up with a sharp stabbing pain in the same area, and in my case it's a UTI...any chance that's what's going on?

Definitely still talk to your doc, though - and take it easy !

ETA: I had forgotten the ligament pain I went through after lots of walking (this was in Manhattan) I change my vote to that.

I hope you hear from the doc's office but I had similar pains and it was the ligaments. I described it as vaginal pain too.

Hope it's better soon. I know those aren't fun. Hang in there! :)

Julie, I'm so sorry you're having this scary pain! I have gotten stabbing pains like that, but not regularly or for an extended period. Hopefully, you've heard back from a nurse by now. Would it be possible to just go down to the doctor's office, to get a quicker answer?

I'm thinking of you...

I had this off and on through my whole pg and was never dialated so it could just be your muscles loosening up down there. I would have it for a couple of days at a time and then it would go away for a week, maybe two, then come back. And like I said, I never dialated, even at 40 weeks.

I hope you get some answers b/c I know that it can be so scary not knowing what's going on in your body, especially with a little one in there!!

Big Hugs and prayers for you,
Angela

Julie,

No ideas here. Just wanted to say I'm thinking about you. Please try not to worry if at all possible (tall order, I know!) and relax. Let me know what your doc/nurse says and if you need anything, I'm here for you! Hang in there. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. (((HUGS)))

I had that while pregnant with Logan- and although annoying, it ended up to be nothing! Hope the same for you!

Julie,
I had very similiar & scary pains with DS - right about 18 wks. on. My midwife kept reassuring me that the cause was that I was "stretched out already" from baby #1.

I hope you get the same answer.

HUGS!

Thanks everyone! The nurse told me to take some Tylenol and lay down for an hour. She said if they went away it was probably muscle spasims and/or ligament pain. So I did as directed and they haven't come back. I was way freaked out for a while but feel much better now, especially knowing this isn't unusual. And yes it's way scary thinking this baby needs to stay put for quite some time still and having pain. Thank you all for your thoughts, I definately needed some reassurance! Hopefully it will just go away!

So glad you're feeling better! I'll have to remember the lying down instructions for this pregnancy. I like the sound of that. :) My midwife also suggested calcium/magnesium when I was pg with dd.

I had that all throughout my pregnancy -- even when I was on bedrest and there wasn't a change in my cervix from visit to visit. I remember being worried about it, too, and my OB told me not to.

Sometimes I think being able to Google things actually makes it worse! I Googled everything on PROM and PTL and prematurity.

Caroline you are SSOOOO right! I was actually thinking the same thing! Glad I'm not alone! I was reading about incompetant cervix and thought I was going to lose it menatlly. The internet - can't live without it, but it may be the death of you in the end!

Thanks Mariana! :) I'm pretty sure my lilypie isn't correct but I don't know how far along I am so I'm waiting until I do to change it. Did you think I put the lilypie up ten minutes after concieving? :P
