View Full Version : All my email deleted!

I had all kinds of important emails saved...airline reservations, confirmation #s, etc. My computer did a wacky start, and now I've lost all my old emails...like 650 of them. Also, the auto-fill doesn't work anymore. Like, all I had to do before was type the first letter of my name, and it would automatically type in Jamie, or the first # to my phone #, and it would automatically type in my full phone #. Also, other things are strange. The font as I'm typing this post is completely different than before. I also think it erased my cookies, because I have to type in a password for everything now...including BBB.

Any suggestions as to how to reclaim my old emails or am I SOL? :(

Thanks.

Did it by any chance start as a new user? Go under the apple menu and see what is says for switching users (ie: logging out....).

I'd check that first........

ETA: Apple Menu, System Preferences, Accounts (see if another account w/ accidentally created)

Do you have a Mac or PC? Our PC did it and we were able to do a reset to a specific date. So we reset it to the day before it screwed up. It was very simple to do.

I hope you fix it! How frustrating x(

Apple Menu, System Preferences, Accounts
It says my name, so I'm assuming that's my account. Is that right?

I called Earthlink and they had me go to their preferences. It listed a mac.com address and nothing else. I'm earthlink.net. He had me put in all my info. and when it came up, only emails from today were there...nothing prior.

Thoughts?

Mac. It's never done this before. I've been on the phone...waiting on hold...for 3 airlines to get my reservations resent to me. That was after waiting 30 minutes on hold for Earthlink and another 30 minutes for him to reset the account...of course only to find nothing prior to today! I keep all kinds of emails so I can save information, addresses, kind notes from my students, pictures, whatever. This is so frustrating...I would have never thought this could happen!

I'd call Apple - but you're not under warranty anymore, right? Definitely sounds like a user issue to me esp since it's email AND internet!

I assume you didn't see any other accounts listed under accounts - since it sounds like you only saw one.

If you go to hard drive - users - anything strange there?

Everytime I go to check my HD, it spins the colorwheel...and won't stop spinning unless I restart the computer. I think my computer has seen it's day or something. The good news is I'm shopping for a laptop next week! BUT, I wasn't ready to give this up completely...as I've not solely used a laptop before.

Jamie,

I can't offer any help, but I did want to strongly suggest that you burn any pictures that are on your computer to CD (if you haven't already). We lost our hard drive last year, and had I not burned all of our digital pics a week before that, we would have lost them, too. Good luck getting your computer fixed! :-)

Hmmm... do you have the Apple System CD? What OS are you running/ can you reboot from the CD?
I am almost 99% sure that your data is still there.. so don't worry.. you will get it back.

I'm running 10.2. I think it's Jaguar? Do I just put the install disk back in? How will my email come back?

I think it was called Panther... some animal from the cat family anyway.
Ok, before you do the CD reboot.. try running the Disk Utility application. It will be found in the Applications folder, under Utilities folder. Select Macintosh HD and run First Aid. Give me a ring later this evening.. we can try and figure this out.
