Just curious what y'all do.

DH prefers it at about 72-73, but I prefer it at about 74-75, unless I'm doing some kind of work/labor, in which case I'll turn it down a bit cooler.

70-72 is a compromise. DH would have it set at 65 if I would let him - he complains it is too hot at 72. I would prefer it be closer to 75 to save on the bill.

Well, today was officially the first day of summer AND the longest day of the year. In SE Va, we usually get nasty hot & humid weather, requiring the a/c to be set around 74 for optimal humidity control and comfort....but it's only early summer. Come August and September (our hottest months), we usually crank it down to 68. By then, we're usually coming inside so hot and sweaty that it's the only thing that feels good on 100-degree days.

i voted 70-72. we set ours at 72 but also our central air unit is older then dirt and doesnt run well. we have recharged it but it still doesnt come out as cool as it is supposed to :( if we set it any higher we would roast. also our vents dont work real well in two rooms. in the babys room we cover the vent so it doesnt get cold in there.

Can I vote twice? We keep it at 77 during the day and 74 at night, but I'm always cold and dh is always hot!

Call us the freeze family, but we LOVE it cold. Our thermostat is never above 71 degrees. I am a sweat-er...after every child I would swear to my doctors that I was pre-menopausal. I still break out into sweating fits anytime, anywhere...mostly at night.

78 at night, 78 during most days, unless we're feeling really hot and we'll crank it down to 76 or 77. :P

Erica - Same situation here. Dh and I compromised at 72. I'm cold and dh pines for his bachelor days of 67-68.

It is usually set around 70. Sometimes I turn it up at night, because I get cold, but I'd rather be cold than hot. We lived in Fla before we lived here where we almost always had the A/C on, so we don't really mind the cost. It is only 2-3 months that we really need it here.

I have it set at 70. Unfortunately, the thermostat is on the second floor. So for it to be comfortable in the bedrooms, it has to be quite chilly downstairs (usually around 66-67).

I like it so you can hang meat in the livingroom.

My sitter complains it's cold (she's from Jamaica). I told her that until her pee starts to steam, she can't complain! ;) :P

You forgot a category...

My vote would have been: "AC? What AC?" :P

I like things cool. In the winter we let the house get down to 64 at night and then keep it around 68-70 during the day.

In summer, I like it cool, especially at night. We also have the problem that in order for the second floor bedrooms to be cool, it has to be chilly downstairs. And add me being pregnant to the mix, oy, the electric bill this summer...

We don't put ours on unless it is sweltering. And then I want it cold FAST and put it down so low the kids start shivering.

Wow, are we the only ones who like it above 80? We keep the downstairs set around 82, and the upstairs (where DS sleeps) a bit cooler.

DH & I are warm weather creatures. But we turn the temp down when we have visitors.

Temperature is of major contention in our house. DH would love for it to be -65 degress, and I would love for it to be around 75. lol
In the car is it much worse though. He is ALWAYS hot, I have a sweater in the car and a blanket for DD and I.

Well, when DH is home, he likes it at about 78/80. Our house is 100 years old (as you saw!), so the AC just runs and runs and runs and he freaks out about the electricity bill and turns it to 80.

When DH is out of town, like now, it's at 72. I LOVE sleeping with a light blanket in the summer...

We keep ours set at 79°. When it's 110+ outside we may lower it to 78° but our electric bill is typically $200 or so in the summertime (ouch) so we try to keep it up higher & make sure our ceiling fans are on too. Of course, I get cold if it's 78°. lol Go figure. ;)

I keep it at 74 during the day. At night, it's around 71-72. Anything over 75, I get HOT.
