View Full Version : Unhelpful DH's...may be in his DNA

This is more for my fellow science nerds out there, but it's also a little brag on a friend. :)

One of my friends from college was just published in Science magazine for her research on "junk" DNA. Her findings link a shorter strand of junk DNA with less attentive and less outgoing characteristics in voles! Voles with a longer junk DNA strand were more attentive to their partners and their offspring!

I shared this with my husband, who is now claiming he has a short junk DNA strand and that's why he doesn't proactively change diapers. :)

Anyhow, here's a brief summary article: http://my.webmd.com/content/article/107/108443.htm

I'm so proud of her!

Oooh! Congratulations! Science is quite a prestigious journal to get a publication! I don't think DH has ever published an article in Science, although his pictures have made the cover of Science and Nature. :P

ETA: I better not let DH read the article or he might decide to take advantage of that, LOL! He does actually have a pretty long strand of the junk DNA because he's pretty helpful with Kaya. :)

OH NO!!! You mean there's now a scientific explanation for it?! lol I'm never letting my husband see this article but it's very cool for your friend! ;)

Oh, you're so right not to tell your DH. I read my DH an article from a psychologist on relationships which talked about how men resent their wives when women ask them to do something they don't want to do. Well, now every time I ask him to do something he doesn't want to do, he says, "No, I don't want to resent you."

ARGHHH! Never give men an out! The next thing you know they'll be saying, "Honey, I can't take out the trash, my DNA won't let me!"

Anyways, that woman is a genius....Go her! I love it when women get published.

What if he's attentive to his offspring, but nothing else, particularly anything house related? Is that some type of serious mutation? :P
