All scheduled vaccines except for the flu vaccine are now made thimerosal free.

I just wanted to add that I actually called up the manufacturer of the DTaP vaccine (Merk I think it is) when I was researching vaccines about a year ago. I wanted to make sure NO mercury/Thimerosal at all was in the vaccine. I was actually quite surprised when I was told there were two forms of the DTaP vaccine given to infants. One contained absolutely NO Thimerosal at all, while the other contained "trace" amounts of Thimerosal. The woman explained to me why one contained trace amounts while the other did not, but I can't remember why that was. She gave me the detailed names of both forms of the vaccine and I called up the doctor's office to see which kind they gave. I'll look around and see if I still have the names written down.

I highly recommend the book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Childhood Vaccinations." It's written by a dr. and is not pro- or anti-vax at all. It's very detailed and in the end she provides an altered vaccination schedule and also provides some very detailed tips on things to do to minimize vaccination reations in case you do decide to vaccinate (ie. like giving juice to your child before getting the DTaP vaccine to prevent a drop in blood sugar, etc.)

This does not mean that you will *get* that version, however.

You might want to postpone, even for a week or so, and do some reading. I'd recommend as a starting point the vaccination board at mothering.com. Any website I could give you will be of one radical opinion or the other, but there are some more reasonable books out there if you have the time to read them. The MDC boards are a good place to get familiar with the resources.

Good luck - it can be a difficult and stressful decision. :(

Best,
Jude

I haven't researched this in a while, but it was my understanding that some vaccines that claim to be thimerosol free actually may not be.

Our Ped. was pretty cautious.

i called both manufacturers of the vaccines used by my ped and luckily all the vaccines were thimerosal free since way before he was born. he also was given the most recent DTaP vaccine which was better for several reasons but both were thirmerosal free anyhow.i still might get that book that you recommended. i think mdc is way too rad a site for me (another poster had told me to visit that site). i have visited it a couple of times. it is just not for me.
if i find any more info i will share it
i am going over every vaccine when i see my ped next time!

eta: i am pro-vaccine for sure. i just want to make sure my dc are getting ones w/o mercury!
