I think I first heard it here? Is it a national program?

Thanks in advance.

Eri,

I've seen programs by this name mostly at churches. It's kind of like day camp for infants and toddlers. But it's not called day care or preschool, maybe to avoid all the state regulations that go along with it? I don't know....

You pay for certain days/times and you get a break while your little one plays!

edited to add this link for the MDO program at a church near me:

In my area it is usually called "Mother's Morning Out," but basically the same thing. Mostly held at churches, you can enroll your child in a couple mornings a week daycare type program. Most of the places have full daycares, but you can just do, say 9-12 on Tuesdays and Thursdays (for example). It's usually really flexible. I guess it is for people who don't need full time daycare. Definitely something I will consider when DS is a little older!

Since other people have pretty much mentioned what it is, I just thought I'd mention that in this area, I frequently see it called "Parent's Day Out". So clearly the name can vary from area to area. I know my mother used one occasionally when I was little, and she said I loved it. :) (I have very vague memories of playing at the place it was held, myself.)

It's not a national program as far as I know. The one Nate is in is like the precursor to preschool. Plus, it's a co-op, so they rely on parent volunteers to supplement their FT teachers/caregivers. Nate's program is also religion-based and is held in a church. I figure that it will get him used to the idea of preschool for next year, and it will give me enough of a break to spend time w/ Rose, run errands, grocery shop, etc.

it's a beautiful thing! a few hours on one or two days per week and it's usually pretty reasonable as it is done through churches. i've done this when i've visited my mom in TN but they don't have that sort of thing in the nj/ny area. it's basically either preschool or daycare here unfortunately.

Our church is starting a pre-school and Mother's Morning Out program this fall. DS is signed up to go to MMO just on Fridays from 9-12. It's basically daycare for just a few hours to provide him with much needed socialization and allow me to run errands without him. Our church offers it all week long and parents can sign their kids up for 1 or 2 days/week.
