View Full Version : How do you clean painted walls? (Building off the cat vomit question from earlier in the week...)

My cat sneezes on everything. It's completely disgusting but easy to clean off glossy surfaces. Lately he's sneezed on our newly painted (Sherwin Williams SuperPaint flat) walls, and I don't know how to clean them without damaging the paint! Any ideas/products? I asked at a SW store but they wouldn't advise me.

And, yes, I have the cat vomit problem too - I am off to get some Spot Shot today. I love our cats, but sometimes I feel they create more work than a toddler does! :)

Thanks!!

I recently tried Mr. Clean "Magic Eraser" for the first time the other day on our painted walls. It worked like a dream!

I tried the Magic Eraser on some white walls and LOVED it - but then I tried it on color-painted walls and found it left a white film. Did I do something wrong?

Ha, ha! I just recently cleaned all the cat snot off the walls. I used sprinkled baking soda on a rag and sprayed the wall with scented vinegar. It worked like a charm. The BS created a gentle abrasive that did not scratch the paint, but allowed me to get the cat snot off. The scented vinegar did a little disinfecting as well.

Hmm...I just reread and I've used the same technique on our flat paint walls with success. However, when I tried it, the paint had been on the walls for at least 6 months, so I don't know if it makes a difference.

I use plain water and a white paper towel or regular towel. Mr. Clean erasers left marks on the wall that wouldn't come off!!

I thought I was the only one who had to clean cat snot off of everything! In the past, I've used a wet microfiber cloth. Lately I've tried the Mr. Clean Eraser, but I had noticed it starting to take color off the walls. I'll have to try some of the other tips.

I have had the same problem with the magic eraser.

Hmm. Interesting. Our walls are painted a very faint pink/eggshell, so maybe that's why I didn't notice anything. I suppose if we had yellow or blue walls things could be different. Good to know....

So did you spray the vinegar first, and then rub with the BS on a rag? Did you rinse it later? Did you buy scented vinegar or make it?

I tried the other idea of just scrubbing with a paper towel, but unfortunately it didn't work so I am going to try this method...

THANKS!
