We're on the QM2 next weekend and trying to figure out the dress code! We know there's 2 formal nights; we're on a 3 night cruise out of NY. We're stumped as to the "proper" attire to wear during the day and haven't found much help online! Help!

TIA!

I pestered my husband, and he said that during the day it should be much like most ships. He did say that several of the cruise lines won't let you eat in the dining room, even for lunch, in things like shorts and a t-shirt - you actually have to wear pants and (for guys) a shirt with a collar. He did say that if you have specific questions though, you should ask your travel agent on exactly what Cunard considers "acceptable" dress for meals and such. (Since meals tend to be where the cruise lines are most picky.)

He did say to qualify that some this may have changed too. His parents used to own a cruise-only travel agency, but that was almost 10 years ago. But he said to definitely check with your travel agent.

Ooh, have fun!! I am jealous! :)

Should be casual resort wear during the day, but definitely check on the restaurants. Every cruise line that we have been on has had different "rules" for the restaurants. Tell us all about it when you return!!

Melissa:

Thanks for the info! We booked directly w/ Cunard and haven't gotten too much info out of them! We didn't find out about the formal nights until DH called to question the attire. We've done Disney Cruise 4 times and each time their brochures/paperwork fully outlined what is expected. Actually, i'll go check the brochures themselves to see if i can find more info!

The restaurants are definitely formal. At least DS won't be with us so i won't be concerned with *him* spilling stuff on me! It's just myself i need to worry about. Fortunately i have a ton of dresses just sitting in the closet, so i need to pick out a few today!

We've already decided we're skipping dinner (most likely, we'll find something later!) the first night since we're leaving from NY - we don't want to miss the whole "leaving from NY" experience.

DH and I have managed to get tables by the windows for most of our cruises. It's really nice to watch the departure from the dining room while being served in elegant style! If you can't get that at your assigned table in the dining room perhaps you oculd get a tableside seat in the alternative restaurant? On Celebrity the alternative restauarnt at dinner is in the buffet and they will serve you on deck/patio. Very nice!

cunard is alot more formal than any of the other cruise lines. If you have a choice, err on the side of too dressed!!! There will probably be very few young people on board (50 and under).
