We're really starting to accumulate a lot of kid's movies/dvds, and right now I just have them stacked in a basket. Unfortunately, our collection is quickly outgrowing this basket and I need a better way to organize them. Does anyone have any clever storage ideas? Keeping them on or near the floor isn't an option at this time as my younger DD thinks dvds make great play toys as well as chewing devices!

Thanks,

DH has amassed a freakishly large collection, and I didn't want to get another piece of furniture to house them, so he opted for using zippered DVD albums. We can easily fit the albums in our entertainment center/armoire thing. You can still keep the inserts, but get to toss all the plastic cases, so they take up much less room. The albums come in various sizes and come in two or three ring binder styles (we have the smaller two ring ones, I think, not full size), so rearranging is easy. You can also buy additional pages for the albums since they hold more than the sheets that come with them. We still have all the kids' DVDs in their cases with our CDs, but only because we still have room there. We may have to switch those to binders soon.

Here are some examples:

We do something along the same lines - I keep all of DD's DVDs in a zippered CD case - two to a page, holds 40, I think. All of the cases are in a rubbermaid box in the basement should we (never, I know...) need them. It was "free" for me, since I had a big CD collection pre-iPod, but I've seen them at the dollar store.

DD knows what the DVDs are from the photo on the disk - Only one, a muppets, doesn't have identifying artwork.

I'd like to do the same with DH's collection, to clear out a drawer in the entertainment cabinet, but many are box sets, or without particularly "defining" artwork, so a specialized DVD binder might be better.

We got a Billy cabinet from Ikea (can't link right now because their site is down). These are nice and inexpensive too and come in a variety of finishes. We bought the glass doors (somewhat pricier) and put Tot-Loks on it. It works VERY well and comes with earthquake/childproof straps. We liked it so much we got another one for our CDs.
