My playgroup is having a small brunch (just us playgroup mamas) for another member who is due to have her 4th boy in Aug. We are putting together a basket of goodies and items (including a gift card or two) for her. I don't know what to contribute. I know someone is already on the lotions bandwagon, and I could duplicate, but don't really think I should. We don't know the baby's name, so no personalizing, and I know nothing about her favorite colors or decorating scheme, so those kinds of things are out.

What would you love to get in a gift basket of stuff?

Hmm...it depends a little--are you talking about stuff for the mom or for the new baby?

How about a baby book for the newest baby? Or a miracle blanket (I know it's a little pricey, though)? You could try for a cute burp cloth or two. There are places that will make a changing pad with a matching set of burp cloths and a few other items (depending on the needs). Maybe you could try something like that? I can't think of anything else at the moment, but my brain is totally fried.

(To answer your question of what *I* would want in a gift basket, I'd love anything fluffy, hee, hee. :D)

It's either/or. I'd like to ideally put in something useful, or very cute, whether it's for mom to pamper herself or for baby. I did think of burp cloths, and had gotten such a cute personalized one for my niece, but this would have to be unpersonalized, so I'm not sure what I want to do. I'll keep that in mind though. And she's not CDing, so that's out. Thanks for the ideas!

How about a gift card to a good "family style" take out place like Boston Market for her family / kids while she's in the hospital?

You could do a small make-up kit filled with trial sized "luxury" bath goods for her to take to the hospital - l'occitane, burt's bees, crabtree & evelyn, etc... A friend & I made a gift basket for a mom to be with hospital essentials, including a small hand mirror, notepad & pen, plastic tumbler for water, comb, shampoo, etc., mints... anything you automatically "grab" while at home

a night-light for the baby's room

a hand-made (if you crochet) blanket just for baby

hmmm...

I give the personalized hat at this site to many people. The idea is to use it in the nursery to stand out :).

Look under monogrammed items.

I love giving Robeez shoes for the new baby. I usually give the 6-12 month size, perfect for crawlers!

I would add some things that get yucky after each child like burp clothes or bibs. As far as practical things go diapers and wipes are always good and you know that they will be used. Good luck!

I like 'family' gifts so the older sidlings don't feel left out. What about any of the following:
Onesies and fabric paint so the siblings can decorate for the babe?
Food- dinner stuff or snack attack stuff- fruit bars to cookies to juice boxes
DVD's/Music- even the baby will enjoy come a bit older
Frozen lasagna and and garlic bread- EASY dinner
Craft stuff- new crayons/paints/markers for the older one to decorate the house for the new arrival, or just to keep out of Mom's hair for a bit
Fun soaps and anti-bacterial stuff for the house- B&B has fun things for kids, or you could buy that Kadoo stuff or whatever it is (you can tell I have not bought it.) To go with this you could get new wash clothes (can you ever have enough???) and/or handtowels- kid themed, so they don't have to match the house.

Mom route-
FOOT LOTION- my feet swelled so much after deliver that this was a saving grace
Bottle of wine for post bedtime
Aveda Tea
Anything Rosemary from Aveda

Baby route-
New bottles, pacifiers, onesies, burp clothes (decorate a few with ribbon), copy of Goodnight Moon, the latest and greatest teething rings/little toys (something they would have have from the other children

Does she have a miracle blanket? With three older ones, you REALLY want the baby to sleep, you know :-)

Burt's Bees, Mustela or California Baby stuff that mom wouldn't splurge on seem like great ideas too!

These are great ideas. I'm jotting them down, but if anyone has any other ideas, I'll glady add them to my list and then choose a few to add to the basket. Thanks!

One more idea with the foot treatment. You may want to get some tighter socks (but stretchy) because they really really helped me when my feet swelled up. I kept them on all the time and it really helped the swelling go down.
