DH and I know where we are going and when, we just need to get the best rates. Do I need to shop around to different travel agencies or do they all come up with the same prices, so I should just go with the one I like best (personality wise)?

I don't know for sure but I've always found the best rates at places like Expedia or directly on the company websites. Hopefully a little bump will help someone who KNOWS to get you a better answer :)

I have no real idea about whether they can get different rates, but I would assume any good travel agent worth his salt can get you good rates. We used a travel agent recommended by word of mouth for our honeymoon cruise to Bermuda and while I dont' know if I loved him, he did get us very reasonable deals and upgrades as promised. I would use an agent again for something like that, if I knew nothing and didn't feel I could plan it myself. I'd pick whoever feels comfortable to you.

According to my husband, he said that travel agents can actually get different rates, unfortunately. He did say that it's more common with large ticket items than smaller ones, so it depends on what exactly you're looking for. He does say that in his opinion it's still better to work with someone you know and trust, because that way if you have problems with travel documents or anything of the sort, you can get it sorted out quickly and dealt with easier.

So what I get out of this is that you can shop around if you'd like to, but make sure you trust and are comfortable with whomever you go with. :)
