We use an espring filter: espring.com. Not cheap, but my mom bought it for us - she said she did the research and it's the best. On the webpage, there's a place you can compare their filter with others... I have no idea about it myself, though.

But, while they have a counter top version, ours is installed into our sink/faucet and you probably don't want to do that while in your apartment this summer! :)

We have a Brita on-tap filter. It is quite good (and portable). WE had it for 2+ years when it suddenly started leaking. I called Brita (number was listed right on the unit) and they sent me a replacement free of charge. They were very understanding, considering I had had it for 2 years. Of course they make all the money on the replacement filters, so obviously they want to keep their customers happy.

We have a Pur under the sink kind where the spout is installed in our sink. We've been happy with it though we haven't used it much lately because we *finally* got a fridge with an ice/filtered water dispenser. We installed the filter almost seven years ago, so better ones have probably come on the market.

This is ours:

We have the PUR ones that attach to your faucet and you can rotate it to turn the filtered part on and off. We also bought one for our ice/filtered water dispenser in our fridge, but DH hasn't gotten around to installing it yet, even though it's been 3 years!

Before we moved into our current home, we used a Brita pitcher in the fridge that we just filled from the tap. We had the same pitcher for around 6 years before it finally broke. (Obviously we replaced the filters in it during those six years.)

Now, our fridge provides filtered water. It's a Maytag side by side of some sort or another - it came with the house. Since I doubt you're looking for a new fridge, I won't run upstairs and check exactly what model it is. ;) But we buy the filters that the manual says to purchase for it. I think the water is just as good (and cold) as our Brita pitcher, and we have the added advantage of the pitcher not taking up space in the fridge. ;)

Our Whirlpool fridge has a filter. We drink only the water from the fridge.

We use a Pur Plus pitcher, because I like to keep mine in the fridge so it's really cold!

We use the PUR filter that attaches to the faucet and we've been happy with it. We buy filters at Costco and they are much cheaper. DH has talked about installing one under the sink but we haven't gotten around to it yet.

We have a brita pitcher.

We don't use the kind that attaches to the faucet because my friend had one and found roaches living inside it...
I guess that's probably extremely RARE but it grossed me out so much I can't look at a faucet filter w/o thinking about it.

We use the filter that comes with our fridge (Fridgedaire). Not religously though. If the water goes into a pan, it can come from the sink. If it goes in a bowl or a glass, it comes from the fridge. If DH and I are drinking it, it comes from a bottle. Obviously, I'm very complicated.

Brita pitchers. I keep one by the kitchen sink and one next to my bed. I get the bulk pack of replacement filters at Sam's Club.
