I tried to do a search because I swear I read something here not TOO long ago but I couldn't find anything. We're getting WAY too many spills on our carpet now with our little toddler & really need to find a good steam cleaner. Anyone have one they love? Preferably something reasonably priced. Anyone know what Consumer Reports has to say about any of them? Any info would be greatly appreciated! TIA! :)

The Little Green Machine by Bissell - LOVE IT WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! With 2 cats and 1 toddler and a baby on the way - it's a MUST. LOL it would be an AWESOME baby shower gift!

Oh and it works great on cars too! Prices vary depending on where you buy it, I got it for $70.

I really like the Green Machine for small stuff. For a whole room, you will need something bigger.

we had 3 dogs wayyyy before we had kids so we own the Hoover V something or other. It's great! We used to own a bissel (the one with onboard heater but ONE part on it went bad and it cost about $30 less than replacing the whole machine. So now we are very happy with our Hoover (from the Maytag company). Also, a good shampoo is key. I like Simple Solution (sold at pet stores) more than the steam cleaner stuff sold with it.

For small stains, get a can of Spot Shot. It's marvelous!

CR 7/03: "Vacuum-sized cleaners. These gave mixed results in our lab tests. All work by scrubbing in a solution of water and detergent, then vacuuming up the water and dirt. All are expensive and take up a fair amount of broom-closet space. They also require you to use their own special detergent, at $8 to $12 for a 64-ounce bottle. The Dirt Devil was hardest to push."

CR 3/04: "We also tested four handheld scrubbers: Bissell Little Green Proheat Turbo, $100; Hoover SteamVac Jr., $100; Dirt Devil Spot Scrubber, $40; and Bissell Spot Lifter Powerbrush, $40. All were judged poor at lifting dried stains. They are handy for picking up spills. The Bissell Little Green and Hoover have hoses so that you can use them in tight spaces, such as auto interiors."

We have a Hoover steam vac and think it does a great job. Well worth the $$.
