View Full Version : UPDATE-- Who is getting the Harry Potter book this weekend!!??

jubilee

I am terribly excited about the next Harry Potter book! Jacob introduced me to them years ago and now we both wait impatiently for each new book! :) He is very bummed right now as he just left for a week of summer camp and won't get back until Saturday night. All our local book stores are having big parties on Friday night to release the book, so he has to miss that :(

But anyway, who is getting the book right away? And is anyone going to a HP party?

I was wondering if we should have a book discussion on HP if enough people are interested. If we do, we should have a separate thread on each chapter or two, so nobody gets the story spoiled by reading other's replies. Wouldn't that be fun? Any ideas on this?

I haven't been on this board much lately because I'm frantically trying to re-read The Order of the Phoenix this week!! :) Tell me I'm not the only HP fan,

UPDATE:: I am setting up a discussion board for Harry Potter. I'll post when it is set up (probably late, late tonight) and ready for members!!

Ok, I think this probably makes me a real geek but I'm going to admit to this anyhow. My dad bought DD and I tickets to fly back east on Friday night. I don't know what he was thinking because the release date has been set for ages. At anyrate, I called a Barnes and Noble in NH and reserved my copy there. The plan is to stop by and get my copy on the way from the airport to my uncle's. So, yes, I am getting my copy right away and no I won't be going to any release parties because I'll be 30K feet in the air. Some of my friends were all "Aren't you going to be too busy visiting your family to read the book", and I told them "Actually, I'm counting on them entertaining DD so I can read the book." :)

I would love to have a discussion group. I think your idea of splitting the threads up by chapter is great.

I'm getting it! Yay yay yay! I preordered it forever ago it seems. That would be cool to have a discussion about it here. I also want to reread OOTP this week. I can't wait! :)

Not going to a party, but I'll be at Sam's Club EARLY (we're business members.) Discounted prices and, hopefully, no line!! I'm skipping my book club's book next month--this is my choice!

I'm IN! Julie, did you know you can pre-buy the book at Sam's club? May save you waiting in line.

I have my copy pre-ordered!! I am so excited for this book. I think I will skip the Friday night midnight party, but I plan to be there early Saturday to get my copy. I am going to get nothing done for the next week or so :)

I can't wait!! I can't imagine that I will make it to Barnes & Noble at midnight (I can't remember being awake at midnight in the past three years that didn't involve copious amounts of a small person's bodily fluids. :) ), but will definitely be getting one the next day! I'm sooooo excited!

Me! I preordered months ago and the plan is for the three of us to go and pick it up together. Julie, I totally forgot about rereading the last book to prepare for the new book. I've done that every time a new book was released (I know, I am such a geek!) but didn't do it this time. I don't think I have it in me to reread it before Friday. Oh, well!

I am impatiently couting the days and hoping DH can take over childcare duties this weekend so I can get a good head start on the book as I KNOW he is dying to read it as well. I'd totally be up for a discussion on it! I pre-ordered my book from Amazon as they SWORE it will be delivered on Saturday. I am just too tired to stay up for a midnight party and fight the kiddies to buy my copy!

I am very excited about the book too! I can't wait! Dh and I are going to the local Joseph Beth reveal and party. Should be a lot of fun! Though I am sure it will be geared towards the kids. I even have my mom and dad watching Dd so we can go. I feel like I pre-ordered it ages ago too. I would love to be in a discussion here!!!

We preordered ours-but my husband gets to read it first because I am saving it for the beach. Plenty of time to read with the grandparents around!! ;)
Now, if I could just find some time to reread Order of the Phoenix between now and then...

No HP parties, but I've got mine on order with Amazon! Can't wait to read it!

As for the book discussion...well, we do have the BBB reading group, even if this month's book is a different book. But it might clear up traffic on these boards for us to take it over to the reading group? What do you think Petra and Norah?

Need to re-read OOTP before this weekend. I usually try to read all the books right before the next one comes out, but it is a bit late to start now.

ETA - when I was in the ante-natal ward for 24hrs pre-delivery I asked DH to bring me some reading material. I didn't specific what exactly so he brought Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets.

I pre-ordered from Amazon, and they will deliver the book to my door on Saturday! This is great because I live in the middle of nowhere, and my "local" Borders is 45 minutes away -- I can't get the book in town. I didn't want to drive all that way and then stand in line forever! Plus, Amazon's price was 40% off list. :)

Count me in the geek club! I have mine pre-ordered at a local Barnes and Noble. I'm not sure yet if I'll go at midnight or just wait until Saturday morning. Guess it depends on my mood that night. ;) I already reread Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix in prep. I read both of those right before DD was born, so I really needed a refresher.

Can't wait for Saturday! It makes me feel like a little kid again. I think the discussion is a great idea, I'd love to join in wherever it takes place. :-)

I am SO excited about the new book!!! I've been listening to my OotP audio cd's all week to refresh my memory. :) I am SO freakin' excited!

I'd LOVE to start a book discussion. How about a Yahoo group though, instead of a thread? Just a thought!

We will be! But I didn't preorder because I have no idea when the Boy will arrive. If he's not here yet or comes say TODAY (yes, that's a good idea--come today!), DH can go out at midnight and get one. If he's just arrived, then Saturday delivery would be just fine. And now I think it's too late to do either!

But I just finished reading all 5 this weekend. :)

Oh I'm am MAJORLY geeking out about this!!! I preordered mine from our local Borders Books but I don't think I'll be there at midnight! But I will be there first thing the next morning!! :D I re-read Order of the Phoenix last week & watched all the movies this past weekend. lol I have a feeling I'll be reading it straight through, as much as DD permits me to anyway. I'd totally jump in on a discussion about it. WOO HOO!!!!!! Can't wait!!! And I'm also totally looking forward to Goblet of Fire coming out over the holidays....the first movie that I'll "have to see" in the theatres this year!

I preordered mine too from Amazon months ago since I figured I would be too busy right about now to even remember to go get it, let alone read it!

Usually I read through the others when the new one comes out to make it last a bit longer. I've been known to stay up all night to finish one too (okay, I'm just going to read to the end of this chapter...then it's a cliffhanger and I keep reading!).

Right about now I'm not sure I'm even going to get a chance to read it--but hey, I can read in 15-minute snippets at least while pumping anyway.

Me! I'll admit that I'm a 31 year old fan. DH and I actually reserved two copies so that we wouldn't fight over it like we did last time. I'm skimming through Order of the Phoenix again this week, too. I think the discussion sounds like fun!

We will be out the door early Saturday morning to pick up our reserved book. I even made sure not to schedule myself for work this weekend. I'll read it first, as DH is one of the slowest readers ever (he savors every word). I'll join a book discussion if it gets going!

I am! I pre-ordered from Amazon. I think that today's the last day to do the Amazon pre-order where it's guaranteed to be at your door on release day or it's free (or something like that).

Sadly, I won't be able to read it right away, because I'm still rereading Prisoner of Azkaban. I think I'll finish that one tonight, but I'm pretty sure there's no way I'll get through Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix by Saturday! Quite frankly, I'm a little tired of the first 3 books b/c I've read them so many times (before each new book comes out, I'll reread the series), but I'm really looking forward to rereading OOTP! I'd do a book group, but I'll be bringing up the rear in the discussion!

DH and I are both super-geeks when it comes to HP! When the last movie came out, we actually rented the local theatre and invited friends and family to come see it for free! DH is pretty much foaming at the mouth in excitement for HBP to be released. He went to the store yesterday to reserve a copy. He checks www.hpana.com for the latest scoop and to check the ticker to see how many seconds left until the release. I'm not *quite* as obsessed with it, although I really, really LOVE the books! We have been known to go to HP parties thrown by a friend of the family. We had one for the second book that was so much fun. We all dressed up (I went as Hermione, complete with the knee socks and frizzy hair - what a riot!) and everything we did/ate was related to HP. We had a chocolate dessert that was in miniature terra cotta pots. There was a little plastic baby doll (a la baby shower decor) in the bottom of the pots and a sprig of mint on top. Looked just like the mandrakes! Really, it was one of the best parties we've ever gone to and the funny thing, it was all ADULTS!

Oh, and our cat's name is Hermione. It was going to be Professor McGonagall because she looks a lot like the cat that PM turns into in the first movie. But it's too hard to say. Non-HP fans give us such weird looks when we tell them her name...

Ooh, me! I pre-ordered at my local Borders months ago (every time we drive by DS#1 says "Mommy, you get your potter book today?") for 40% off. But Chicago mammas might want to know that Brent's Books on Washington and Franklin downtown is having a marvelous book sale right now--all books 50% off, INCLUDING the new Harry Potter!

And I'd love to have a book discussion!!!

I didn't preorder but I'm so excited to read the new book. I read the last one when DS was a few weeks old so I might need to reread before tackling the new book! I love HP which is interesting since I'm not usually into this type of genre.

Count me in!! Have it pre-ordered from Barnes and Noble for Saturday delivery (free shipping if you order it with a bunch of baby books:))

Re-read GOF and OOTP but might have to re-read Chamber of Secrets too, since the new one is supposed to have some connection to it!

I'm going to be out of town till Sunday... although my book will be waiting for me when I get back, I hope I can last till then!

Me too! And I love the idea of a HP discussion group - I know my IRL friends would think I'm a total geek, but I'm so looking forward to reading an actual book, just for the sheer pleasure of it, that isn't about How To Get Baby To Sleep or authored by Sandra Boynton.
