I don't do much with my hair so I'm freaking out at the fact that I need to figure out what "hairstyle" my 15 month will have!! She's due for her second real haircut. Almost overdue, in fact. She looks pretty wild. :P

Anyone with toddler 'do knowledge/experience please chime in. I'd love to hear thoughts.

I have no advice but I wanna know, too. At 16 months, DD's hair is out of control. She had a baby mohawk when she's born, and I've trimmed it twice, but now it needs more serious intervention. But she still has the remnants of the baby mohawk, kind of like male pattern baldness IYKWIM? At the moment I do the Bam-Bam thing but she pulls the barrettes out (and demands to have them put back in, sigh). Plus unless you do a ponytail on top and one in back it doesn't look so hot anyway.

Miriam is 28 months and has had 5 hair cuts. I just went to a children's hair salon and asked the stylist what would be best for her hair type (LOTS of curly, fine hair). The first time I got it cut it was half-way down her back, and I just had them trim it. But she was always pushing it out of her face, so the next time I had them cut it into a chin-lenght bob. The length was good, but she still had too much hair around her face, so after that I just told them to cut it up above her ears and thin out her bangs, and they tapered it in the back, so she has a sort of wedge. It's really cute, and suits her fiesty personality better than the long hair!

This won't be much help to you, but so far, we've let nature take its course. Sarah is 26 months old and has yet to have it cut.

She has very curly hair that appears much shorter than it is. We may take her in soon to even things out a bit, but the only thing we've really decided to do is not give her bangs because I think they'd look funny with her forehead and curls. (I do love the look of bangs on little girls though.)

I don't know how long we'll let it get though, like you, I have enough trouble deciding how to wear my own hair!

This is a great question, and I'm hoping you get more replies, because I am in a panic over Baby Girl's hair, and she hasn't even arrived yet! I guess I just hate my own hair and hairstyle so much that I fear I will not be good at girl hair w/ my own daughter!

Thanks for responding, ladies! :)

Okay. I think I've decided that I'm just going to go with the stylist's advice for now. I don't think she/he can do much damage... It's all over the place right now so DH and I (esp. him) don't like her looking like such a wild child. He has bad memories of having "unkempt hair" in elementary school. ;)

Her hair is like mine(poor kid) and is wavy in some areas and straight in others. When I "fix" mine I put curling mousse and hairspray, then diffuse and it looks great(curly) but I'm not a high-maintenance kind of gal. I would love to be able to just brush my hair and go but, alas, I throw it in a clippy almost every day.

DD had that "male pattern baldness" look when she was an infant! I was washing her hair at 7-8 weeks and "scrubbed" her scalp. Her hair came out in those areas!! It was several months before it grew in. I feel your pain, PP. :) I bought her a really cute headband to try and cover it up. It worked great.

Andrea, hopefully you won't have to worry about 'do's so early. I knew when she was born with so much hair(which was a given in our family) that I'd have this issue.

Anyway, thanks again and feel free to add other thoughts you might have. :)
