Hi,

I don't post a lot, but I just talked to a nurse at my DD's dr's office and just don't feel all that satisfied. DD woke up this morning with a good amount of small red pin like marks on her right forearm. They aren't raised and they don't appear to bother her at all. No fever. They are tiny just like a pin or needle had pricked her. The nurse seems to think it is some kind of contact dermatitis (sp?), but that just doesn't feel right...although maybe it is. Anyone seen anything like this? Thanks!

I can't help, but when I was in a similar situation I googled the presumed diagnosis and got pix to compare my DD's rash to. Maybe if you find that the pix of contact dermatitis can look like what your DD has it'll ease your mind. Conversely, if you can't find anything similar, another call to the Doc is in order. :-)

My dd caught a viral infection in Feb. She had a fever for a couple of days. When we took her to the doc on day 3, she had developed those pin dots on her thighs. I don't remember what the ARNP called them but they were part of the viral infection. She said to keep dd hydrated and she'd fight it off on her own. It was about 10 days total and dd was never really bothered by any of it.

Go to www.askdrsears.com and look under their section for identifying rashes. More than a few of us have diagnosed rashes that way. Or just google "rashes" and see if you can identify it.

Hello,
Just a guess, but they could be petechiae.(pah-tee-kee-i) My dog actually had them when he developed an autoimmune disorder a while ago. They are tiny pin size red marks on the skin due to broken blood vessels. They are not raised and they are not irritating. Here's a link with a better definition... http://www.healthopedia.com/petechiae/

It's probably nothing but worth looking into since petechiae can signify a low platelet count. I hope whatever it is goes away soon and all is well. Keep us posted. HTH

Thanks for all the help! I talked with a RN friend of mine today and she also thought it might be petechiae.

I guess another call to the dr is in order.

Thanks again!
