Does anyone use any natural/organic skincare products (specifically facial cleanser and moisturizer)? If so, what are your favorites and where do you buy them? I have a Trader Joes, Whole Foods, all organic co-op, and another health food store all within a few miles of my house.

I used to use Zia products, which are available at Whole Foods. I really liked them.

I've used the Kiss My Face mostly organic cleanser for a while. Turned my younger brother onto it when I last visited. Now we're back for another visit and I see my mom has also started using it. It's not a foamy cleanser but has a nice citrus smell. You can get it at Whole Foods.

I have used jurlique.com (bought at a spa & their own store) and recently have been trying karavita.com (bought through a friend who sells it). I love jurlique but it was getting expensive. I like karavita so far. I haven't really used products from the grocery/healthfood store.

I think it was Caroline (C99) who turned me onto this site!

http://store.annabellina.com/ I battle with blemishes & it really had me think about the stuff in face products. Anyway so far I have been really happy with the stuff from here. I've tried toner, face serum & the moisturizer w/parasol in it for daily sunscreen. I think it must agree w/my face because I am noticing considerably less breakouts. As I phase out my old face stuff I'm going to add other products in this line.

Might have been me who recommended annabellina. I've used it for about 18 mos and LOVE it! I'm very sensitive to preservatives and am phasing out parabens due to their questionable safety and have found that nearly all commercially available stuff (even at whole foods, like the kiss my face, etc.) have chemical preservatives in them. Ab doesn't and my skin is great since using it! Pricey but concentrated and VERY worth it IMHO!!

yes it WAS you!!! duh! I've been meaning to let you know I have slowly been phasing in their products to my skin care routine. I haven't had nearly as many blemishes as in the past so I am thinking it must be their stuff & lack of chemicals. It is pricey but I agree worth it!

What do you guys get there, I'm confused by the many products?

I have normal skin, but I love a thick creme--think La Mer(or, umm, vaseline!)!!

their stuff looks great.

I love the honey cleanser and neroli hydrosol toner. Can't remember which cream I used. She also has some great scrubs - I like one made from oats and honey. E-mail Tricia - she is super sweet and responds fast! Tell her about your skin and what you like and she'll make some recs. I'd try some samples first (thet're about $5-6 each I think). I will warn you as I do all friends I've gotten to switch (including DH!!!) - there is a big difference between her stuff and the chemical stuff in most stores! The honey cleanser, for example, feels like a lotion when you put it on. It does not foam AT ALL so the first few times I double checked the label to be sure I had the right bottle! But my skin is fabulous for using it ;) I did find my skin "purged" a tad at first getting rid of toxins and getting used to the new regime, but after the first 2 weeks I was positively glowing.

I use a tiny bit of baking soda to wash my face, only about every two or three days(water in the meantime), with a water-tonic with a splash of apple cider vinegar afterwards. My skin has never looked better than it has since I started this. And I live on coffee. ;)

For moisturizer, night cream, and makeup remover, I make my own -using apricot kernel oil, walnut oil, and sometimes jojoba or almond oil (depending on the season and whether it's a night, day, or cleansing oil) with essential oils added. I buy my oils at a nearby health food store.

I use Alima mineral makeup, which is wonderful(www.alimacosmetics.com) and Gabriel mascara.

HTH - I strongly recommend that you try the baking soda thing!

I think we have close to the same skin care regime! I remove make-up with a castor/soybean/rice bran oil mixture. Exfoliate every other day with baking soda. Tone with sake. Moisturize with a squalane/emu/meadowfoam seed/jojoba/rosehip seed/borage oil mixture.

I use the toner for oily/acne prone skin & the face serum for blemishes which I'm happy to say are few & far between now.

I also use the moisturizer with parasol in it for sun protection - not greasy or oily at all which w/my already oily skin is a plus!

definitely email them!!!

I am intrigued. I love all natural remedies, not because I'm earth-mama in the least (I'm never giving up shampoo, no matter how much time I spend at MDC!!) BUT because I have one grandma who is 85 and has great skin and was poor most of her life raising 5 kids, and I think olive oil and such stuff were her "products". :) So I have living proof they work :)

And can you please email me or post where you get the formulas (proportions, etc.) for the moisturisers?? I know your skin does look great :)

Thanks, eri

how do you exfoliate with baking soda? It's not too harsh?? Do you make a paste of it with a bit of water and rub on face?

Where do you guys get these recipes? Whre do you get sake and such...

thanks

Yep, I just mix a bit of water and baking soda and GENTLY rub it on my face. You don't have to feel it roughly on your face to know it's exfoliating.

I get my sake at Trader Joe's, but you can get it anywhere I think. I get it there b/c it's convenient and cheap. I get my oils at a variety of online places, depending on what all other stuff I need. If I just need a variety of oils I order from www.gardenofwisdom.com Markey has amazingly fast shipping. This site http://addy.com/brinkley/fixoillink.html is also one I order from and it's a great site to learn about oils and what they do for your skin.

HTH!

thanks so much. i will visit that site to learn more, as I am very intrugued from your mixes there, but they also sound too complicated for my simple brain :)

thanks again.

I used to use BS to cleanse as well, but I found it too harsh/drying :( It does give a nice glow though! My moisturizer for winter is just pure shea butter, sometimes jojoba. There was a lot of talk on MDC a while back about cleansing with just oil but I was too afraid to try that!

ITA about mineral makeup too. :)
