I made this for DH and I yesterday. It's easy, reasonably healthy and GOOD! :)

1 bag frozen fresh berries (Any flavor will do. Mixed berry or blueberry work well)
2 cups plain yogurt
1 cup skim milk
1 cup Splenda (or sugar, if you must ;) )
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
2 scoops soy protein powder (I found one that was sugar free! YAY! :D )

Mix all ingredients in a blender. Pour into glasses. Top with (I use sugar free) whipped cream. Makes 6 6-ounce servings.

Serving tip: Martini glasses are festive serving glasses to use. :)

Enjoy! :D

(Edited 'cause I forgot one ingredient. DUH! :P )

Hmm...could I make a bunch of this and freeze some for DD? In other words, can I make them and then maybe freeze in small portions for her?

Possibly. My DS isn't on solids yet, so I'm not sure.

ETA: Vanilla extract has alcohol in it. So if you do, I'd eliminate that ingredient.

Yum! I am addicted to smoothies and will try that one. Funny, today I just posted a smoothie recipe of mine in the mommyfit forum. It is my absolute favorite, I got it from the Zone Perfect cookbook:

1 cup blueberries, 1 cup raspberries or cherries, 4 oz water, 4 tsp almonds, 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder. It's not a kid friendly recipe due to the almonds, but I may try yours :)

I'm actually drinking one right now...just mowed the lawn so it's my reward.

Eileen,

With Mari's teething we've been making smoothies with roughly (from DH's memory):
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 frozen peach
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 3/4 cup yogurt
- 1/4 cup apple juice

We put it in the 7oz take/toss cups and they fit it exactly. She has some for breakfast, and I re-freeze for her to drink throughout the day. It works great. I haven't tried freezing beyond the one day, though.

Ooohhhh... I SO forgot the protein powder, but I guess it's an optional (and calorie-loaded) ingredient anyway. OH well. :)

Not sure if you're anywhere near a Wegmans, but their store brand soy protein powder is sugar-free. :)

I'm anxious to try yours! Thanks for posting it! :D

Wow, that sounds really yummy! I think I'll toss a couple of our ripe bananas in the freezer tonight. :) I don't have any apple juice, though. Can I substitute some water and an apple or just pureed apple?

The only reason we added the apple juice was because it was too thick without it. So, definitely can use water. We don't give her juice in any other form, but I drink organic apple juice so we had some around. :)

You can totally make it without the protein powder. The only reason I've been using it is to up my protein intake, which in the past has been very minimal. Now that I'm trying to follow a modified version of the Zone, I'm trying to keep my meals as close to 40-30-30 (carbs-protein-fat) as possible.

Also, the protein powder, since it's vanilla flavored, takes some of the tang out of the fruit and adds a bit of sweetness.

Gotta make another one later today!
