My 8 yr old cousin has shingles.

What should I do if anything?
My mom just called DH to tell her, my aunt took her to the Dr. today. Cousin's Dr. advised that they tell everyone with young children and that are pregnant that she may have come in contact with. Us x 2

I saw her last Friday evening, minimal contact but we were in the same house for about 2 hours.

Is there anything that my midwife could do if I get it? Or should I just wait to tell my mid wife next Tuesday at my appointment? I hate calling if there is nothing that can be done.

Likewise should I call DD's ped? She was all over Maddy....
And I decided to opt out on the chicken pox vaccine.

Shingles, otherwise known as Herpes Zoster infection, is reactivation of the same virus that causes chickenpox. If someone who has not been exposed/vaccinated against chickenpox, they are at risk of developing the chickenpox. Pregnant women's fetuses are at risk, too. Varicella zoster can cause limb hypoplasia and scarring of fetus' skin, but I think this is only during 1st trimester exposure (can't remember). The only treatment for a pregnant woman, other than avoiding contagious people, is to give the infant immunoglobulin at birth IF she DEVELOPS chickenpox in the last 5 days of her pregnancy.

THerefore, I do not think that you would need to notify your provider prior to your next appt.

My MIL had shingles last Dec. and we were living with them at the time (our new house wasn't ready). I was 4 months pregnant, but my dr. wasn't too concerned. I didn't think to call the ped for my then 1 1/2 yr. old DS...BUT we were all fine. We just moved in my parents until she felt better.
Just thought you'd like to know that we were all fine! :-)
