I'm pretty sure it's gross. Net is after taxes.

Gross is total income/profits. Net is after taxes (income) or expenses (profit).

What is caught in the net after stuff falls out (taxes) :)

LOL, don't be embarrassed. this is why I married a math professor. Or so I thought until we realized 8 months into his new job that he'd been getting paid 12.5% less than he was supposed to be (we got reimbursed, but seriously, you're a math professor!) ;-)
