LOTS of happiness coming from my household!!! Bryn FINALLY took a bottle from DH yesterday while he was holding her in his lap!!!!!!

The day after I posted I began prepping myself for the long haul ~ lots of crying from a super-stubborn baby girl as she refused to take the bottle from me. BUT...she took it from me FIRST TRY!!! Obviously, this devastated DH and blew ME away since every piece of literature that I've read (or advice that I've heard) has stated that babies DO NOT take bottles, at least initially, from nursing moms. She took 2oz and then another 2oz about an hour later. DH tried giving her 4oz in the evening but she SCREAMED for 45 minutes and then took it from me later on. :( The next day DH was working a long shift so I thought that I'd try a little experiment and see if she'd take a bottle from my neighbor/friend. She didn't take it from her either so, thankfully, she was clearly just going through a "mommy" thing and NOT an "I do not like daddy" thing. We went through several days of my giving her the bottle (again, without a problem) before DH would try it. He finally got up the nerve to try it while wearing her in the Baby Bjorn (he worn her every opportunity that he could!!) forward-facing and she chugged the bottle!!!!!! He did it again the next day without a problem. What a beautiful sight!!!! I was a bawling mess and DH was teary ~ gotta love him!!!! Then, last night and this afternoon, he was able to give her a bottle while holding her :) Wow...the feeling is just amazing!!

I would just like to THANK all of you who supported us through the rough phase. Your posts were so comforting to BOTH of us :)

For those of you who are still going through this...HUGE hugs to you. We were soooo lucky that Bryn took to a pacifier. I really think that is what made the late bottle reintroduction possible.

NOTE: She takes a MAM latex pacifier so I looked for the nipple that most closely resembled that nipple. The winner: Playtex medium flow latex orthodonic nipple with the Nurser system.

It is so interesting that just when we feel so overwhelmed, life often turns a corner and things straighten out themselves :) Congrats on your successes :)

Oh Sharyn, your post made me cry--it's so beautiful! I'm so glad you and your DH were able to succeed with the bottle. Kaya had not been taking the pacifier, so maybe that was the difference? But maybe we should have tried offering it to her while being slung (which we never got the hang of). Anyway, congratuations! I'm so glad to read such a happy update! :)

Yay! Glad to hear this worked out for you!

Payton was the same way-- ended up taking a bottle best from me, and we really had to work to get him to take it from DH. Funny how kiddos are so individual and don't follow all the norms, isn't it?
