i think my 12 yr old dog has a hot spot, his first one ever so i'm not sure, but pretty sure. has anyone had succes treating hot spots? i've been putting hydrocortisone on the spot and then using a little lavendar or tea tree oil around the area to keep him from licking and chewing more. any other ideas? tia

I usually clip the hair around the hot spot. If you can keep it dry and keep your pooch from scratching, you should be all set. One of those big goofy plastic cone collars will prevent biting/licking the hot spot. A little Sulfadene (sp?) can help too.
