A florist once stopped by our house and asked to cut some hydrangeas. There's a fall craft show in town, and I'm wondering if I can try to make wreaths or even sell the dried flowers as supplies. Has any one done anything similar?

Hydrangeas are beautiful dried in arrangements. Maybe make small arrangements and buy inexpensive vases and sell them that way...

How do you dry them? I tried hanging them upside down like I do with roses and ended up with a wilted mess!

My mom always let our hydrangeas at home dry on the bush, and then picked them. I think you can also cut them and dry them upright, but haven't tried it.

If you want to make a wreath, I think it would work if you made a fresh one, and then let it dry out hanging...but I've never done this before, so that may just be wishful thinking :)

I do know I'd buy one if I saw it available...

The best way to do it is to let them dry on the bush first. I found a website that should help you with that:

As far as crafts, dried hydrangeas are pretty delicate so you may need some sort of stabilizer. My next door neighbor, who has tons of hydrangeas, sprayed the blossom heads gold after they dried and put them in her Christmas tree and it was fantastic.
