View Full Version : Does anyone have an excellent CAN OPENER

I know that is a crazy question...but everynight I struggle to open cans of corn, beans whatever it is and never make it around the can, then fight with the can, then pour the juice of the contents all over, have images of my finger being shopped off...

I have two of the OBX (???) black ones...
there has to be a good can opener...I am even willing to pay the big bugs for a good one for I can't explain how frustrating it is not to be able to open a darn can in one good swoop...

Hmmm, I got ours at Crate and Barrel, and I think what they sell are the OXO ones, which is probably what you have. So I'm not going to be much help here. ;) I really like the one we have, though!

Otherwise, my mother has one that opens cans without leaving sharp edges. I have no idea who makes the thing though, but she loves it. It's sort of like this one, but I know it's a different company:

I can ask her exactly what brand hers is the next time I talk to her, if you'd like. :)

We are a two can opener family. DH uses this electric can opener http://www.ekitchengadgets.com/75217.html . I use the smooth edge opener http://www.pamperedchef.com/our_products/catalog/product.jsp?productId=603&categoryCode=KH since the kitties think I'm opening tuna when they hear the electic opener! And I've always had good luck with the original Swing Away opener.

I'd like to know too.I just bought a Black and Decker one about 6 weeks ago and already it's not working right. It opens cans fine but won't shut off even when can is removed...

I've always used the Original Swing Away too. Worked for grandama, works for me. :-)

I concur. That's what my parents always had growing up, and they're fantastic...never gum up and get stiff to turn (which ends up purpling your hands).

I have an OXO (Good Grips), which is just like yours Neve, and I like it, but I think that side can opener is right for you (OXO also makes one of those...available for immediate purchase at Bed, Bath & Beyond, btw). Plus 20% off coupon (or $5 off $15) :)
