My sister is getting married in 2 months and told me and the other bridesmaid to pick out our dress, the only stipulation being that it be red, a darkish red. We haven't picked one yet, and the bridal stores are out now (not enough time to order now). Do you have any suggestions for stores? I've looked at places like Macy's and Nordstrom, but where else can I look??? Thanks in advance!!!!

I believe that you can buy off-the-rack at David's Bridal. http://www.davidsbridal.com/index.jsp Check out the store locater to see if there is one near you.

Do you guys need to dress the same, or just wear the same color? Would either of you need a special size -- plus size, or extra small sizes?

How formal or informal is the wedding? What length dress do you need (or prefer to wear?)

Are you open to ordering online?

Give me a few guidelines, and I'll come up with some suggestions!

Cheers,
Donna

Donna just beat me to the David's Bridal recommendation. You can buy off the rack and they will order a size from another store if they don't have it in their store. If there isn't one near you and you find something you like there, let me know. There are two not too far from me.

Good luck,

My sis looked at David's Bridal and didn't see anything she loved (she is kind of helping us look! :-))
We want the same dress, both smallish sizes. The wedding is outdoors at a park overlooking the beach in San Diego. We are leaning towards strapless, tea length. Yes, we'll order from anywhere! :-)

Thanks, Donna!!!

I would try J Crew (they have some bridal wear now) and Ann Taylor. Maybe even Talbots or Talbots.com since they have a lot of dresses online. Hope you find something you all like.

How about this one from nordstroms.com ? Vera Wang, a-line, cocktail length, strapless, and comes in a color called merlot.

Saks Fifth Ave online is where i found the dresses for my girls - ones that i didn't see in their b&m store. you can also check banana republic, ann taylor, talbots, cache, and lily rubin (sp?). neiman marcus sometimes has good deals, as does loehmanns if you have one. daffy's might be hit or miss. and there's always bloomingdales.

you didn't specify if it's formal or cocktail length you need, so that's why i threw in br and at.

one thing that i highly suggest is utilising the personal shopper service at any of the bigger stores. it will save you a lot of time and annoyance - and it's free!

My friend orders us Watters and Watters dresses from here and they came FAST! If you see a "bridemaid" dress you like contact them and they most likely can get it for almost 50% less AND quickly. http://www.pearlsplace.com/ May be an easy route to take if you don't have time to run all over town. Here is the Watters and Watters site for ideas...http://www.watters.com/catalog.php?coll=watters&page=7

My friend got off the rack dresses at Lord and Taylor for her bridesmaids. Another friend we wore Ann Taylor dresses, and for another Laura Ashley.

My bridesmaids got their dresses all over the place, but my restriction was longer, black and sleeveless. A bit easier.

Happy shopping!

I second the suggestion to look at J. Crew and Ann Taylor. I wore a bridesmaid dress from J. Crew and it was really nice (Yikes! That was 10 years ago, LOL!).

I had my two bridesmaids pick a dress they both liked, and it was a sleevelss coctail-type dress bought on sale at Neiman Marcus. Not the traditional bride's maid dress at all, but neither was the wedding traditional.

Have you tried www.chadwicks.com? When they're bad they're really sucky, but when they're good they're amazing...

They are also crazy helpful when you call them for help with your order.

They have this:

Another possible source of www.newport-news.com. I haven't ordered from them, but they have a decent selection of dresses...I like this one:

and this one:

Also, there are sometimes good dresses at www.victoriassecret.com and www.fredericks.com.

HTH!

You might also want to check out a Jessica McClintock B&M store. The selection is hit or miss, but you never know what you might find.

I was going to suggest the one at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa if you are in OC. HTH!

I have bought two bridesmaids dresses from Ann Taylor. Now that the fall stuff is out, you may have good luck finding that deep red. (A lot of times they have matching shoes!)

Also, keep looking at all of the dept stores. I am sure they will get lots more of that stuff in the coming weeks.

Hey ladies, thanks for your awesome help! I found a great dress at anntaylor.com. My sis also found one at Houseofbrides.com, so if they will ship in time, we'll get it, otherwise the ann taylor one.

Thanks for the pics, too! You guys rock!
