I've been having the strangest cravings recently - stuff that I would never normally eat! I haven't been able to actually eat any of it because of the strict diet I'm on, but here's my list - do you have one?

* Bologna with French's mustard on white bread
* Tyson's frozen chicken pieces (cooked, of course)
* Carvel's ice cream cake
* Oyster steamers with hot sauce

Onions, raw onions. I want onions on everything.
Sauerkraut (did I spell that right?)
Shellfish
Spicy anything (those oyster steamers with hot sauce sound heavenly!)
"stinky" cheeses
Yeah, DH is loving me right now.

And every now and then, if I don't get a KitKat, I swear I will die

LOL! Nothing too weird on that list Amy! Well, maybe the oyster steamers with hot sauce.

Fire Cheetos are my vice currently

I have been craving Tuna, my current favorite: Tuna mixed with Cream of Mushroom soup over egg noodles. So fattening but sooo tasty.

Something that is weird though: I have been having an aversion to sweets. I went to a shower last weekend and I had half of a 1 inch brownie and a very small amount of an apple crumb square. I had to throw the rest out because I felt sick after eating those small amounts. And I haven't been able to finish a custard chocolate malt since I got pregnant. I love chocolate malts, so sad. :(

When I was pregnant I was OBSESSED with mangos and mango lassis. Previously I HATED them! I must have eaten Indian food a ton of times in the 11 weeks I was pregnant! :)

Oddly enough the mango love stuck with me. It's like a little gift I got from my girly who didn't survive. She taught me to love mangos. :)

Holli -

I'm sorry for your loss. :( That's very sweet, though. I got grapefruit from my stillborn daughter. :)

whoppers - I don't think I'd had one in atleast ten years and normally I'm not that crazy about ground beef but suddenly they are like a little bit of heaven on earth

I'm also really liking anything with ground beef - meatballs, meatloaf, ziti, ect

and

sushi w/ eel - I went to a cocktail party on Tues and must have ate like 12 pieces of this

When I was pregnant with Toby, I started loving vanilla ice cream. Not so odd unless you consider that I previously hated vanilla, rarely ate ice cream and generally have an aversion to dairy products. Happily, the addiction has subsided

Christy, I actually lost my taste for a lot of junk food during my pregnancy, including chocolate and coffee! So you're not alone! Has it come back? Well, I do enjoy the occasional chocolate now (the darker the better), but I still can't eat a huge amount of it....

Early on in my pregnancy it was meat, meat, meat.. couldn't get enough. And chocolate was absolutely sickening. Well, chocolate and I are once again best friends. I also know have an almost daily sweat pickles and american cheese sandwich, on whole grain.. so not too bad :)

Current pregnancy: Cheetos, Cheetos, and more Cheetos! And normally I am not a big fan of 'em, so this is baffling me. Also Dunkin' Donuts Chocolate Munchkins (just had some this morning, LOL) and any kind of donut (and I am so NOT a Homer Simpson donut-addict). I've also enjoyed BBQ chicken & turkey a lot during this pregnancy. I have an intense aversion to pasta with tomato sauce, baked ziti, any Italian-style pasta, which is absolutely hilarious since normally this is my favorite thing.

Pregnancy with Ellie: I craved chocolate, which I normally don't like too much, and strawberry slushes at Sonic. I was also highly susceptible to tv advertising (I'd see a Braums Sundae advertised and immediately tell DH to get me one, LOL!), which explains why I gained so much weight during that pregnancy!

This is almost too gross to admit, but when I was pregnant with DD I craved peanut butter and bacon sandwiches on white bread. It sounds disgusting to me now, but at the time they were soooo good. With this pregnancy, I haven't had any strange cravings, I just want Mexican food all the time.

Not pregnant, but had some strange cravings when I was.

Before I even knew I was PG, I had two cravings...Chicken Korma from Baluccis in NYC (no need for bread or rice or anything else) at lunchtime, and Quarter Pounders, no cheese, extra pickles for dinner. I was doing WW at the time, and probably should've noticed these crazy cravings going on...

Later on, it was avocado with salt. I once took a halved avocado, filled the hole with soy sauce, and at the whole thing in seconds. DH was totally disgusted, and every time I go through an avocado phase now (I hated them before I got PG with DS, but haven't lost the love so far), he thinks I'm PG.

When I was pregnant I wanted:

*Reeses Pieces (normally don't like these at all!)
* Peaches (I ate pounds and pounds of them.)
* Red meat (Steak and hamburgers were about the only meals I wanted!)
* Subway tuna sandwiches- so fattening and I thought they were fantastic! Hadn't eaten one before pregnancy and haven't eaten one since!
* A coke float (I never had one but I thought about a coke float every day and told DH to bring me one in the hospital but once Lauren was born, it sounded awful so I never had one!)
* Peppermint icecream- haven't tried it since and don't want to because I think it would ruin my perception of this stuff as the best thing I ever tasted!

What was truly strange for me was that I couldn't stand any ethnic food while pregnant. Poor DH would ask if we could eat Indian or Thai or even Mexican and I would say no way! I wanted American food and that was it.

Even stranger, I am a major chocolate addict and while pregnant, I really didn't want chocolate.

LOL Eileen! Well thank you for commiserating! I feel like the non sweets thing is a good thing really.
(Though I still love to smell the stuff so I keep baking and throwing most of it out because I can't eat it before it goes bad.)

Not pregnant now but when I was:

*Fish Sticks: Hated them before, hate them now but I made DH buy a 2 lb box because I just had to have them
*Milk: Not much of a milk drinker but I sucked it down while PG and got jittery when we ran out

I had very many food aversions though. Chinese (usually my favorite), Italian, you name it. I think I ate crackers and jolly ranchers through my entire first trimester.

Just got done being pregnant (there's a 2 week old snoozing in the next room!)...but when I was, I craved:

-fruit (had one week where I could barely work because I kept thinking about when I would have my next fruit fix)
-lemonade
-bread-and-butter pickles (but I *never* ate them from the jar...I always put them on a plate first!)
-Thai green curry chicken
-chocolate pudding
-TacoBell tacos (ok, it was only once, but I needed a cheap crunchy taco in the worst way...and I never eat at TacoBell!)
-pickled beets (which I normally like anyway, but I ate a lot more than usual)

And I had aversions to solid meat (like a steak, although hamburger and sausage were fine) and hot beverages, like tea and hot cocoa.

I also had "cravings" for alcohol, although I never indulged! I guess there's something about not being able to have something that makes it that much more desirable, even though I hardly ever drink! There were a couple of times when DH poured himself a glass of dark beer, and boy I would have given *anything* to have had some! :)

With DS, it was baked potatoes. Never really liked them before, but could have eaten them every day (and sometimes did) when I was PG with him. I distinctly remember being in restaurants and DH would be seriously worried that I'd start stealing potatoes off other people's plates as the servers carried them by! With DD, it was hard boiled eggs. Always thought they were OK, but I could not get enough of them while pregnant with her. I'd boil a dozen at a time, and that would only last a couple of days.

Still love both of these, but not in an obsessive compulsive way!

Yeah, I'm sorry, but that sounds disgusting! Seriously, peanut butter and bacon together on a sandwich? I've NEVER heard of that! They are both individually delicious, I must admit - but together? At least there was bread too, dipping bacon in peanut butter I really can't imagine.

I'm not pregnant either, but my weird cravings were Dr. Pepper and jelly beans. Sometimes together. I bought pounds of jelly beans to eat while I was pregnant, and have not bought one since.

I agree with you about the sweet thing. However, some of the stuff you bake could possibly be frozen like muffins and carrot cake, etc., and then when you deliver, you'll have a ton of nicely frozen food to thaw out and eat. With a food saver, it'd all be in great shape (our latest toy)! :)

I craved sweet tarts a lot. (Weird because the only candy I usually like is chocolate). Also peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (I'd eat two or three at once!) with ice cold milk, banana bread, vanilla pudding, and Nutella.

You think that's bad, my MIL eats peanut butter, lettuce, tomato and MAYO on wheat a couple of times a week.. I wonder if it was a craving that she developed during one of her 7 pregnancies that never left her :)

Puddy73

DH was pretty disgusted by it, too. He's pretty glad that he doesn't have to watch me eat them this time around. If you can believe it, there is actually a restaurant in NYC called "Peanut Butter and Company" that serves a fried peanut butter and bacon sandwich called "the Elvis" and it is one of their best sellers. They must have a lot of crazy pregnant customers! :)

Not currently PG, but last year at this time I wanted tomatoes. Then I went through spells of wanting everything spicy and then nothing spicy. Drove DH nuts, as it would change from week to week. Normally I adore ice cream, I didn't eat much after my first trimester. Though it has been my constant companion since DD's birth. The biggest craving I had - struck me at the end of my second trimester. I wanted BEER, a nice tall pint of Guiness Stout. I was even smelling it at work. I'd be sitting at my desk and I'd get this overwhelming desire for a pint. That was rough!

Congrats to all the preggos!
Not preggo now but when I was I had to have chickpeas, cottage cheese, and green olives mixed together. And ALOT of them. I ate this probably 4 times a day for 5 months straight.
Then I decided that I just couldn't wait for the cottage cheese and olives and would eat the chickpeas right out of the can!

That's so cool Jennifer, I saw "Peanut Butter and Co" featured on the Food Network...and know exactly what you're talking about with the Elvis sandwhich.

When I was pregnant, both times I craved KFC extra crispy thighs dipped in ranch dressing, with a liter of peach tea. Also, anything starchy like bread and biscuits with sour cream on top. And although I didn't know I was pg at the time, I finally decided I liked sauerkraut, which is so funny b/c the smell used to nauseate me...and all the sudden I liked it. I guess you could say that I'm looking forward to the cravings the next pregnancy brings.

I had a serious milk monkey on my back when pregnant -- *at least* a half gallon a day! I blame DS's milk intolerance on that! Totally know what you mean about the jitters. I would totally freak if we ran out. I would run to the store in the middle of the night (couldn't wait for DH to do it for me) and guzzle in the store parking lot.

Also couldn't get enough beef. I am not a beef eater, but had at least a hamburger per day.

Also loved bleu cheese, even though it's on the bad list. I tried to stay away, I swear! I found myself reading labels of bleu cheese salad dressing to see which ones *didn't* actually have bleu cheese in it.

And I had a food aversion for anything green, so don't ask what the salad dressing went on....

Not preggo now, but when I was:

Baskin Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Before I was pregnant I was not a fan of ice cream at all!!!! Hated most things dairy. Pregnancy changed that for me. I crave it monthly now. Damn hormones!

Watermelon. My dd was born in mid-August and I would send dh to Costco to get a watermelon for me every other day. I seriously had to pace myself or would have eaten one a day.

Water, and LOTS of it. I couldn't get enough cold water. I always had a tall glass of ice water wherever I went. Still love the water.

Lemons with salt. I would peel a lemon half way and then salt it up. Take about three gigantic bites and peel the rest of it, then salt it and polish it off. My Dad has a lemon tree and I'd fill up a bag at least once a week.

Crazy pregnancy hormones!

Ha Ha! The visual picture of that is cracking me up. We used to call Charlie the little samosa when he was in utero. I ate them practically every day - couldn't get enough of them. Thank god for Devon avenue in Chicago - I would go to a different restaurant for them almost every day so that no one would catch on...

Donna's DH doing the typing here:

I don't know how many boxes of Cocoa Puffs that I had to buy during the pregnancy. That was the only thing she could keep down for a good portion of it.

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (had to be the blue box) was the other one. That got so bad that every night when I got home from work, the first thing that I did was walk into the kitchen, get out the pot, fill it with water and put it on the stove to heat. All of this before even putting down the laptop bag. This went on for WEEKS! It's amazing that I can still eat the stuff, and actually really enjoy it.

She SO much wanted her Chinese Food during the pregnancy, but just couldn't stomach it.

That's what I get for sharing a funny thread with DH :)

Oh, and every word is true! I had to eat handfuls of Cocoa Puffs when I woke up, before I even moved, because otherwise, some really nasty vomiting and dry heaving would occur.

And the mac n cheese....had to be made fresh...every night...could NOT STAND the reheated stuff (and I still can't).

We'll have to see what occurs with this one....

I think my most notable craving while pregnant with Ishie was Fruity Pebbles. I was under orders to eat anything that sounded good to me and thought I could keep down, so I went through a three-week period early in my second trimester where I ate Fruity Pebbles at least twice a day.
