Abigail is enchanted with the idea of a skirt for her arms, so I'm going to make her a simple mitered poncho. Any rough estimates for yardage?

I did one a few months ago but unfortunately cannot remember the brand of yarn or actual yardage. I used a sort of novelty yarn I found at a yarn shop that knitted up to look like you're wearing a little field of flowers. I used size 8 or 9 needles and about 2.5 balls of yarn.

It'll depend on what weight yarn you're using. Here's a pattern from Lion Brand yarn that calls for 250 yards of a bulky yarn.

Here's one that uses 3 colors, but uses 390 yards of the main color in DK yarn. http://www.stitch1knit1.com/shop/free_poncho_pattern.html

Using one of those, you should be able to figure out how much you need for whatever yarn you're using.

I have no idea, but everytime I think of her asking for "a skirt for her arms" it makes me smile. :)

Me too. :) I'm using a bulky yarn (lots of knitting, not much time left), so I'll use the Lion Brand one as a vague guide. Thanks!

Rachel,
A while back you were looking for a pattern for a particular weight of yarn. Did you ever find it? I got those books with lots of newborn knits. LMK if you want me to still look. E-mail me with the specifics if you want me to look.

Nope, never found it! I'm looking for a newborn sweater with a gauge of 3 - 3.5 sts / inch. My current plan is to do a 4-st sweater and just have it come out a little bigger, but I haven't settled on a pattern. I'd love to hear if you have anything particularly cute!
