First of all, I want to thank all of you for your wonderful well-wishes on the arrival of Bridget! They mean so much to me and just fill my heart.

Unfortunately, as joyful as her arrival has been, the day she was born we learned that my mom's cancer had returned. She was diagnosed with a very agressive ovarian cancer in July 2002 and went thru a full year of chemo to eradicate it. Thankfully, a year later, from the chemo and surgery, she was cancer-free. Unfortunately, it has now returned to her spleen. My parents have been here for a week, coming for Bridget's birth. But now with these circumstances, their stay with us has been extended so that Mom can start her first round of chemo on Thursday.

Any and all prayers and good thoughts are welcome and truly needed. I truly appreciate them!

Oh Maureen, I'm so sorry. I can understand how hard it is to have a parent sick with cancer. It must be really tough to be feeling such a mix of emotions, happiness over Bridget and then sadness over your mother.

I truly am sorry and will keep you in my prayers!

Sorry to hear that. My prayers are with you. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 6 months pregnant and we actually timed Susanna's birth around her chemo (we knew we had to have a c-section). DD only missed going to one of my mom's chemo treatments and my mom often refers to Susanna as the best cancer treatment around.

Congratulations on Bridget and best wishes to you and your family.

Maureen -

My mom's remission from agressive non-Hodgkins lymphoma lasted only 10 months - we got the bad news 8 weeks before my twins' birth. She has since had more chemo, a marrow transplant and lung surgery, & apprears to be on the mend! I understand how very hard this news, and this timing, is for you. Stay strong! Your mom is nearby and can take joy from the presence & love of you and your babes during this tough time.

Oh crap, Maureen! That stinks! I will say prayers for your mom and for your family. What a blessing to have her here for Bridget's birth, but how sad to find out such sad news on the same day. Hopefully the chemo will do it's job and she will be happily and healthily watching her granddaughters grow to a ripe old age! Hugs to you and to her! Call me if I can do anything! I can drop stuff to you or stay with the girls or something if you need it, or I can just listen.

God, I'm so sorry to hear that.
You have to hope for the best. There are a lot of new and study regimens for ovarian cancer that can help stop or at least delay the progression.
Be optimistic, your little Bridget needs you (love the name, BTW).

Maureen, how awful for you to be going through this after the arrival of such a beautiful baby girl. Bridget is gorgeous...that picture of you all together is so lovely. I only hope your mother finds comfort after her chemo treatments. They are no joke and I will keep her and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Ovarian cancer is so aggressive...perhaps this warrants a donation to the research foundation. The only one I know of besides ACS is an Australian-based company at http://www.ocrf.com.au/.

All my best to your family during this time of ups and downs.
