My poor little guy fell down the entire flight of stairs this morning. It ended with a whack on the head from the hardwood floor at the bottom. My DH went to get Drew out of bed this morning and they were both standing at the top of the stairs. Drew somehow lost his footing, they hadn't even starting walking down yet, and DH could not catch him. He rolled sideways half way, and end over end the other half until hitting the bottom. I got there just as he smacked his head on the floor. He cried for a minute and has been fine since. It really is amazing how tough these little ones can be. I kept him home from daycare for awhile this morning to make sure everything was okay, but after a few hours, he was begging to go play with his friends. I called our Ped first, and he said that as long as he wasn't showing any of the typical concussions signs or any pain, that there was no need to bring him in. I think that it will take me longer to recover from this experience. Even though I keep going over it in my head, it was just an accident, and I don't even think that DH was being careless. Although, I do expect that we will both be holding onto him for dear life everytime we go down stairs!

How scary Amy! I am sure that it helped that mom was right there to scoop him up! I am so glad that Drew is o.k.

That is scary!! I'm so glad your little guy is OK. These accidents happen, no matter how careful you are.

And I know it would take me a few days to recover, too. :)

Poor Drew! Glad he is okay-it must have been so scary for your DH to watch. Ouch.

Oh my gosh, Amy, how scary! I'm glad he recovered very quickly! Accidents like this are exactly that--accidents.

And if it helps to commiserate, Kaya almost fell down the stairs headfirst at the car dealership (carpetted), but I was sitting next to her and one step below and was able to catch her in time. She's just learning how to take the stairs and I was there to help her if she needed it (she mostly wanted to do it on her own), and I looked away for less than a second and when I looked back, she was in the process of losing her balance. She was startled, but not scared and recovered pretty quickly.

I think we all need to be thankful that toddlers (and children in general) are very resilient! :)

Soph did the same thing about a week and a half ago. I didn't see it, but HEARD it. She landed on the slate floor in the foyer.

I was honestly shocked that there was no blood! Glad everybody's OK!

Amy, I'm so glad everyone is okay! That must have been so scary, I can't even imagine! Little kids can just be so amazing! I, on the other hand, trip over a toy and have bruises all over! :)

Been there, but with a 10 month old. It is incredibly scary, but yes, it is amazing how resilient kids are. When I took a similar tumble a year after Colin, it took my knee a year to heal!

I'm a basement stairs fall survivor. I kind of remember it, so I might have been somewhere between 2 & 3ish? Or maybe I just remember my parents telling the story so often?

I'm sorry you had such a scare this morning-- and I'm very glad Drew is bouncing back. (((hugs)))

Amy, poor you!! I'm sure it was so much more traumatic for you and DH. Hope tonight goes well.

Yikes! Glad to hear that he's fine. I can totally relate: My daughter fell down entire flight of stairs at 15mos. She slipped, bounced once in the middle, and landed at the bottom like she was sliding into home. She cried, got comforted and went off to play, while I sat there with my heart pounding and my blood pressure through the roof for the next 15 minutes. We were visiting friends, and I think our hosts were more traumatized than my daughter. Then we moved from a ranch house to a house with a long flight of wooden stairs.... Now, she runs, skips, jumps, flies down the stairs. Thank goodness they're flexible!
