I am ISO picture books that would make good framed art. I want to purchase the book and tear out the pages to frame them in my DS's new room. A book with great illustrations is ideal. I am stumped! Spend several hpurs in bookstores today. Please help!

I was thinking of doing almost the same thing! I put up a wallpaper border that has puppies on it and I am ISO cute dog illustrations. I was actually thinking of scanning an illustration from a children's book and printing it out to frame (rather than ruining a book). My DH has a color laser printer so it should come out really nice - the problem is finding the book! I can't seem to find a book featuring dogs (besides Clifford or Blue), so if anyone knows of one, please let me know. I have a 2 yr old as well as a 4 mo old, so spending hours in a bookstore is not an option :) What kind of theme are you working with? Maybe I could offer suggestions?

Time for Bed by Mem Fox is beautifully illustrated (there are words on the pages though). I Love You As Much... by Laura Krauss Melmed also has nice illustrations.

The only ones I can think of without words that might work feature a dog named Carl. There are a number of different ones.

It would help to have more information. Does the room have a theme? Do you plan on framing every page? In that case you will need to make copies of some pages or buy two copies of the book. Did you try your local library? The children's librarians should have tons of suggestions for you.

The Children's Book Council sells posters, and many of them are done by children's book illustrators:

The American Library Association sells similar posters:

Barefoot Books have beautiful illustratons. You can also buy prints. Island in the Sun is one of my favorites. http://www.barefoot-books.com/us/site/pages/productone.php?pid=953

If bunnies are your theme, I love the work of Anita Jeram: "Guess How Much I Love You", and "Bunny My Honey". Art.com has a good selection of children book prints that are pretty cheap. Good Luck!

Thanks for the input so far. Great ideas. Here is more info:

No real theme so far. We painted the room Pewter blue. We have a barn red antique metal bed. Trim and ceiling are white. We have 3 creamy white PBarn frames that I would like to use (12 by 12). It is Ok to have words on 1 side. The Mem Fox book like PP mentioned is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for in terms of size and beautiful illustration, except that is mot exactly the look I'm going for... I have actually tried art.com and they have an extensive children's gallery -- much cheaper than I had expected, $3-15 prints. I need about 3 so that could almost be as much as a book. Right now I am leaning towards the vintage scooter, wagon and trike prints by Hamilton on art.com.

Maybe Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown? Or Fire Truck by Peter Sis?

A well illustrated calendar can also serve the same function. Ikea has one from "Peterson and Findus" that Dante adores.

Another beauifully illustrated book is Stellaluna
Paula
Mama to Dante, 8/02
And 2 sweet peas in an April pod
