DD's getting one done this week and we're in the midst of a mini family feud. Dh wants to put her in a frilly little dress, while I am leaning towards just an everyday outfit because that it how she looks 90% of the time, so that's what I'd like to capture. I also am a fan of diaper only pictures, she has such cute chubby thighs!
So, what did all you mamas do?

Would you be able to do some pictures with a frilly dress and some in a regular outfit and some diaper only pictures? I know when i have gotten portraits done i got some of everything taken and then once i see the proofs i can decide which ones i truely like more.

I voted diaper because that's the one that turned out the very cutest, but she also did one in an everyday outfit.

Why not do all three? We usually do a wardrobe change at DS's portraits, and as long as it is quick, the photographers haven't complained.

i've done both... 2 mo was somewhere in between, 4 mo was a pretty christmas dress, 6 mo was a cute onesie (to show off the thighs!!), 8 mo was her baptismal gown and an in between outfit, 10 mo was my favorite everyday dress, and 1 year was a pretty (but not fancy) dress and her pink/white stripe overalls with white onesie

i vote do several and then pick

attached are 2 mo, 6 mo, 10 mo and 1 year

i hate choosing pictures as i always love several!

Here's my favorite pic of my dd at 3 months--I brought in all the blankets people had made for her (that's what she's lying on). The frilly dresses just don't look right on the wee little ones, IMO... unless your little dd is sitting up by herself already! ;)

We did 2 "sets". The first he was in nothing and she did a really cute "body parts" collage with closeups of feet, tush, face, etc. It is adorable. This was all on black background. THen she did him in Osh Kosh shorts overall (denim) with no shirt underneath and these are also adorable. She also had us do a fancier outfit but I didn't like them at all :(

I'm a huge fan of anything classic so all of dd's portraits her first year except for one(a semi-frilly dress) are diaper/nake and her bday pics are denim overalls(w/ & w/out a white top underneath).

Since you can't decide I'd dress her with your fave and they won't mind at all if you change her quickly. Just remember she'll only stand so much. ;)

I do suggest you do no shoes since in most pics, only the bottoms will be seen.

DD actually had two outfits that I put her in because I couldn't decide plus we did a nekie one. One was a dressy one, one was an everyday outfit.
My favorite is the everyday outfit so that is how I voted.

The dressy one my DD doesn't look so happy in. I think it was too much with the lights, being in a place she didn't recognize, plus the tights and shoes.

We did a 4 month portrait with a simple sleeper, but it was a fancier sleeper than normal (with a collar and some chest button trim). Very simple and plain color to highlight the baby not the clothes. We also did some naked photos.

We did portaits every month for the twins the first year, and I had great fun picking out the outfits each month. At 3 months, I liked simple, babyish, classic, dressier one pieces. They didn't bunch up at the waist, no straps to fall down and didn't overwhelm the babies themselves. Any prints were small and muted and I didn't put them in shoes, hats etc so there were lots of baby fat rolls showing :) There were months which I had them wear a particular favorite outfit just for my memories. I took diaper only pics at home and they turned out great. I agree you may want to change outfits but my kids could tolerate only a bit of commotion before they got fussy and tired. Work fast!
