Please don't feel obligated or anything, but I've had quite a few people e-mail me about ways they can help Mariah and her family, so I thought I'd post a general call.
First off, she probably won't be checking the boards until Monday, so there is the possibility that we can let this thread move to another page (maybe the 2nd or 3rd page) by then, and we can keep most of this a surprise for her. :)
For those of you who aren't aware of it, she is in the Air Force and they are training her for radiology. Unfortunately, the training requires that she be apart from her husband and two kids for 101 days. Her daughter is now 7 months old and still nursing. So she has been pumping every day and overnighting BM to her husband so that he can feed their daughter. Money is definitely tight, but both she and her husband think it is worth it, especially with the family history of allergies, etc. But besides the cost of the FedEX to overnight the milk, she also has to pay an extra $14/day so that she can have some place to freeze the milk. The separation is also particularly hard on her 3 year old son who has been a mama's boy (even though her DH is a wonderful SAHD). He definitely misses her.
I am once again amazed (but I shouldn't be) by the wonderful support that is to be found on these boards. We already have 28 people signed up to find out ways they can help Mariah. It was proposed that we adopt a day or days; to basically sponsor a day or two to help with the $14/day extra that they have to pay. So if any one would like to help her out in that way, this would be an easy way to help. If money is tight, but you have some milk bags or you'd like to send her (or her DH) something, even just a letter of encouragement, that would also be an easy way to help.
If you're interested in helping at all, just send me e-mail at firstname at chemicalgraphics dot com and I'll send you an invite for a yahoo group that I've created for this purpose.
There's no need to reply to this post, but feel free to post questions here, or if you prefer, to just e-mail me. :)
Thanks everyone!
Eileen
