Okay, I am need of help. When we moved into our house three years ago, the toilets all had a ring in them. I have tried just about everything I can think of to get rid of them to no avail. Anyone have any magic cleaning tips? Or, should I just go out and buy four new ones! I am sick of it and feel it makes me look like a bad housecleaner!

If it mattes, our water is very hard, but we try to be good about using the water softener. I don't think the previous owners used it at all.

Thank you!

Have you tried a pumice stone? You can buy them at pool supply stores- just scrub the pumice directly on the ring.

Have you tried using the toilet bowl cleaner called THE WORKS? We love it here!

We use The Works at our house as well. It is the only thing that gets the ring out of our toilets. I have tried other products and always end up sticking with The Works. I try to do it when DD is in bed so that she isn't around the chemicals as much as possible.

I had the same problem for a couple of years. Nothing I tried got rid of the rings in our toilets. I couldn't tell you what our problem was but Sno-bol did the trick. Just another idea. :)

A pumice stone is the only thing that worked on ours. It took a bit of scrubbing, but the bowl looked brand new. Sometimes you can find them at hardware stores or Wal-Mart.

When I moved into my house, the well water deposits were VERY noticable. We thought we'd have to replace the toilets. But thankfully we tried a trick from the Queen of Clean book...drywall sandpaper (looks like a screen) and tang. I think the purpose of the tang is just add to the scrubbing power. The sandpaper did not damage the toilet significantly. If there are scratches, they are not noticable.

Another product you might try is Spot-X. I purchased it at Home depot for around $5 with a $1 white scrubbing pad and it worked wonderfully on my shower doors, which are now clear. Nothing else worked (whether natural like vinegar or toxic like Kaboom and lime away). I think I read on the spot-x website that you can use it on toilets.

I got some toilet bowl cleaner that removes mineral deposits. Works like a charm!

for the suggestions. I have tried The Works and a pumice stone (although maybe I should try that again) without success. I will try some of the other ideas!

Kaboom, it's a spray cleaner and it works well on hard water stains.

Or look for CLR, I *think* you can use that in toilets. You need a hard water cleaner, regular stuff isn't going to cut it. And then once you get it clean do maintence. If you aren't using one bathroom all day at least flush it once that day so the water doesn't sit and collect deposits.
