3000 New Orleans city workers being laid off...

I just read this on msn. Mayor Nagin said the city has no revenue right now and therefore no ability to pay its workers. My heart just continues to break for the victims of Katrina. I also read a piece in the New Yorker that came today that made me sad as well.

It's gotten easier to go a day or two without remembering the tragedy, and I hate that we are so fickle as a society - on to the next news!

It just made me sad and I needed to express it out loud, I guess...

It is very sad but I hear that health and safety workers have been spared since they are needed so much after the tragedy. I imagine a lot of city fuctions have been ground to a halt and this is an expected albeit sad outcome.
